I have a friend who's considering coming to Korea. He has a master's degree, so Told him to shoot for a uni job. Is it harder when searching from the states? Also, timing is important? When's hiring for Next semester? Thanks |

It's harder to get a job from outside korea as they prefer to have an in-person interview. Having some experience in Korea is a bonus.
It's best to hire at the beginning of the year when the first semester of school starts. January or February.
There are many threads about this so it's good to search. |

actually there are 2 really good private univs that are good places for a newbie to start, One is WU or Wonderland University, they are like the Univ of Phoenix offering a nontraditional learning situation.
the other is the Univ of Chungdam, think of them as the DeVry of Korea. Good places to get your feet wet |

ALso, depending on your friends master's degree, the better places are favoring linguist/tesol masters as a preference. So if they have that it might be more helpful. It will probably get to a stage where that is all they will employ but it might be some time in the future before that happens. But yeah outside country interviews are less likely to be successful. Not saying it is impossible but if the talent is already here why take the chance that the person overseas pulls out at the last minute if offerred a position |

1- hiring from abroad will greatly reduce the odds of your friend being considered for a University position.
2- Main hiring season for Universities is in November-January for a March semester start. Some Universities hire about now for the Sept. start but not the majority.
3- Your friend should also consider Unigwons (Hakwons run by the university) as a good way to get into the University circle as that experience WILL help secure a University position down the road. |
