Some questions:
Which is nicer?
How to get to each island?
How much is accommodation on each island?
What type of accommodation is available on each?
Which is prettier with nicest beaches?
Any other info would be great.
Would I be able to arrive Friday evening and get a ticket for either island? I heard that Deokjeok can be busy and requires advance booking, is this true?
In particular the second question. I rang tourist info and they said that there is not bus to Incheon ferry terminal from Seou and that I'd have to get the train to Incheon airport then get a minibus to the ferry terminal from there. Is this really true? I thought there'd be a bus from somewhere in Seoul to Incheon ferry terminal considering they have a good network of buses going to all sorts of places throughout the country.
Thanks for reading! |

I've done both several times so maybe I can help.
It is true you have to take a bus from the airport to get to Muiido. It's isn't far, and at the end of the line you take the world's shortest ferry ride to get over to the island itself (seriously, this huge ferry just basically turns out of the dock, goes 10 meters, and docks at the island, it's that close).
Deokjeokdo is a lot less accessible, the ferry ride from the pier in Incheon is around an hour or so. However, the last time I was there the staff at the pier was very helpful in arranging accommodation and explaining things, and they spoke very good English.
M-do is probably "nicer," in that there are more amenities, the motels and restaurants are nicer, etc etc. It's also likely to be much more crowded.
DJ-do has a better beach, but that's not saying much. It's also quite foreigner-friendly, as flocks of waygukins congregate there on long weekends and whatnot. This can have its pluses and minuses, of course. On the big weekends the beach looks like a giant trash bomb went off in the morning, and it can be crawling with all sorts of early-20s debauchery and excess. If that's your thing, enjoy, it's not for me anymore to be honest. |

Hey Wayne,
Thanks a lot for the long reply. Thinking of heading this weekend to Muiido. Might go to Deokjeok some other time.
Do you know, is it possible to book the beach huts in advance or is it first come first served?
Thanks again. |

Is there any vegetarian food on the island? Also, I read on the wiki that they don't stock any foreign beers in the convenient stores on the island.
Anyone confirm this? |

Can't comment on vegetarian food as I brought my own and cooked in the hotel. However, there is a Family mart on the island and while I can't remember the actual selection, I did purchase my fair share of Asahi. It seemed to be no different in selection as to any other family mart i've been too. |

I stayed at a pension last year during summer and it was 100,000WON a night. It was also the nicest one I could find. They have little huts on the beach that are probably much more affordable. |
