I've been told most teachers here are fresh out of university.I feel I might be seen as too old to be in Korea? Im going yes for travel, learn something new but to also save for my masters,I'm not into clubbing anymore I prefer chilled bars live music, anything travel or photography related things. Is this going to limit my social circle?

So am I going to be viewed as a old person and be questioned as to why I'm there?

Thanks

No, you probably won't be seen as too old by most people, however YMMV.

If you had a lot of friends in your home country, then you probably won't have any trouble making new ones.

You'll probably get the occasional why aren't you married yet question. But no one is going to really grill you on your life choices.

A lot of people say this, but in my experience it's not true. I came to Korea at 23 and I was generally the youngest person in whatever group I was in for my first two years or so in the country. I'd say most folks who head over to teach for the first time are between 25-28, maybe even skewing a bit older than that. So yeah, I don't know if this used to be the case and isn't any longer, or if it's always been a fallacy, but regardless, you'll find that most people you encounter will be right around your age.

I didn't get there till I was 35. Left when I was nearly 41. Didn't start teaching English in Asia (in Taiwan) till I was 33 (and a half). If anything, you're older and wiser and less apt to have the wool pulled over your eyes by unscrupulous employers. I'm still teaching (in Shanghai) and I'm nearly 43, teaching 3-year-olds.

27 pffft! You are prime time, son!
I arrived in Korea pushing 31 and age was no big deal if you aren't too sensitive about it.
Dated girls that ranged in age from 19-35 and had a great time.
Social life was great.
Just don't take your age or yourself too seriously. being 27- early 30's will probably work in your favour in numerous ways when dealing with Koreans.

The one area that age did play a negative role was with my western coworkers. The immaturity in the workplace got to me at times. The place I worked probably had a lot to do with that though.

I'm 37 now and hoping to come back to Korea by the end of summer. I'm looking for a different kind of experience this time due to my age and maturity level this time around. But I'm expecting it to be enjoyable and rewarding.

I'm 47 and am having absolutely no problems getting GOOD work in Korea. I think a lot of places now want experienced DEPENDABLE people whom parents and other staff can trust and depend on. 27! I got warts older than that.

I came over at an age older than that and had no problems.

You might find a lot of the younger teachers really annoying though, especially the ones who have never had a job before.

Never hurts to try!

I'm 26 and I was one of the younger of my orientation intake. My career in ESL and linguistics is just taking off so I'll be a fair bit older as time goes on.

am wondering what kind of experiences you expect to have considering you believe yourself to be "too old at 27" in any capacity

Thanks to everyone for your replies.
I have read blogs watched videos of teachers experiences in Korea and socialising and lifestyle seems to revolve around drinking clubbing and trips to Thailand.

I'm not a big drinker I'm past that stage,I don't want to, as I see it waste my time re living previous experiences.

It seems I am wrong with this assumption.

I hope that you won't be teaching any grammar courses. I jest, seriously. It is true that there are a lot of recent university grads, but there are also many older folks and tons of in-between aged teachers. You will fit right in and most likely have a good experience. I went in my 30s and spent five years there. I mostly hung around with 20 some year olds my first couple of years there, due to the age demographic of my hagwon. When I moved on to public school and most of my friends had left, I mostly spent time with my gf and K-teachers from my school. Get on over and have a good time. Korea is a fun place for any age.

What do trips to Thailand have to do with age?
