I'll be in Siem Reap for a few days this summer. I've heard that Cambodian customs sometimes assesses duties on imported electronics--even for short periods of time. Should I anticipate that I will be charged a fee to bring my laptop in? Or is this one of those policies that's on the books, but rarely enforced...? |

Laptops are about as common as cameras or umbrellas in the rainy season.
They won't even look at a laptop carried by a tourist.

Thanks: that's good to know. (I'll probably have a camera and an umbrella, too. ) |

I concur with Tompatz. I have been to Cambodia several times with my laptop over my shoulder, computer brand name embroidered on the bag and no one gave it a second look.
I have had my run ins with immigration officials (overland crossings from Thailand) over the scam of the day (health card fee, visa stamp fee, bus ticket to no place, etc.) to get some type of bogus fee from tourists, but an electronics duty has never been one of them. |
