I thought I had seen a posting (but can't find it now) that mentioned that you needed at least 14 days left on your ARC in order to apply for a D-10?
(Maybe I had mixed this up with the need to report any change of status to kimmi within 14 days??) |

News to me.
=3 days prior to end of ARC.
=within 14 days of termination of employment (if your ARC is still valid).
=up to 7 days before the end of your contract if ARC and contract expire at the same time

Thanks, TT!
I also wonder since the 13-month ARC came in - if you applied for that ARC with a 12-month contract, can you sign a new contract with the same company for just another couple of weeks beyond the original 12-month contract without needing to report it to immi?
(ie, my ARC still won't have expired even after the 2-week extension) |

I think that you can apply for a visa transfer 2 weeks before your contract ends. I can't remember now when exactly I've done transfers but I'm sure that at least once it was more than a week before the contract ended. I've definitely done it more than a week in advance when I had a LOR and was leaving early. The LOR had my final work day written on it. |

I also need to get a D10 Visa but I'm having some trouble with the immigration websites to figure out which office I should go to.
Can one get the D10 Visa at Incheon airport immigration (I ask cause its one I know how to get to.) or should I go to another place? I live in Ilsan. |

What say if your contract finishes but you have a month more left on your ARC?
Regardless of whether you want to look for a new job or transfer your visa, can you stick around in Korea for that month or do you have to get out because your contract has ended if you do not look for work or transfer to a new job? |

Depends on your school, if they report you gone or not. If immigration knows you had finished working, then you will most likely be given 14 days or a month to leave. Your visa status would be changed to function like a tourist visa in that case. |

The bottom line seems to be reporting a change of status within 14 days to immi (provided your ARC doesn't expire in that time).
I guess that could also apply to wanting to work an extra couple of weeks/three weeks beyond your contract date, but still within your extra month ARC period? |

Pretty sure you can't do this at the airport.
I'm not sure how many immigration offices there are near Seoul or where they all are, but there is one in Incheon. You can take the subway to DongIncheon (Line 1) and take a taxi from there (provided he knows where he's taking you...but if you have written down in Korean "Immigration Office", they will probably know where it is).
If there's an office closer to you, then hopefully someone can chime in, or you might run a search online.
Did you ask anyone at work?

To switch from a D-10 back to an E-2, do you need to give a new background check and degree, etc. etc.? |

No.
If you did, there'd be very little benefit to the D10. |

Go to the one that issued your ARC (the one you are registered at).
ICN will NOT issue a visa or change your status.

You can stay but you have to report your change of status (loss of employment / job finished) to immigration within 14 days if you want to remain in the country.

Still not clear about this D10, sorry. My contract ends on July 12 but I'm staying with the school untill the end of July. My ARC expires on August 11. I want to go home for a while and return to Korea with another school(no new job yet). Is it okay to work beyond the contract end-date? When is the right time to change to a D10? How long does it take to get the D10? My worry is about not being in Korea when the D10 is issued and where they will send it/my ARC if I have no address. |

You can work up to and including the day your ARC expires. But you must be out of the country by that date, extend, or change your status of sojurn

It takes 10 days. You cannot apply for a D-10 until you have finished working. From the day you turn in your application, you are no longer permitted to work (legally).
You cannot leave the country while your visa change is being processed. If you apply for a D-10 and leave, it effectively cancels your D-10. You will have to go through all the paperwork again.
So.. to sum up.. the best time to apply is the last day you are working and at least 10 days before you leave. |

Sorry.. to clarify.. once you have your new arc card showing "D-10" status, you can leave and come back. You just are not permitted to leave while the visa is 'in process' |
