Hello all, first time poster here.

I'm collecting the documents for my first E-2 visa, and I've run into the problem that to apostille my college transcripts--which have been notarized and sealed--I must unseal them. In other words, for my state's Dept of State to apostille them (I'm a US citizen), they need to open the transcript and view the notarization that's sealed inside, thus unsealing them.

Does anybody know exactly what it is that the Korean gov't requires? A sealed or apostilled transcript, or both? Or does this vary between provincial MoEs, recruiters, and consulates? I'm applying for a public school job, not a hagwon.

I have emailed my recruiter about this issue, but I thought I could get the skinny from some of the experts here as well.

Thanks!

They want a certified true copy of your degree with an apostille on it.
They want your FBI check with an apostille on it.
(x2 if you can and save you some grief later)

The consulate (and possibly the employer) want a university sealed transcript.
The transcripts do NOT need an apostille.

My understanding was that transcripts are not required anymore. Can anyone give information on this?

I have an apostilled degree which (like all UK degrees) has my overall grade on it.

Will I need transcripts as well?

TIA

Yes, this is a confusing one. I think overall, immi changed to policy that transcripts where not need anymore. Just the news and process has not reached around the world.

I also suspect from which country you come from also decides. Some countries do not use apostille so degrees and papers have to be checked by the local Korean consulate. For example the Vancouver Consulate asks for a sealed transcript.

I am guessing but I suspect Americans do not need to provide since the get the whole apostille check done.

Check your local close to hometown Korean Embassy/Consulate webpage. Maybe some details can be provided.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply Skippy Very Happy

I am not in my home country so it would be non-trivial to get them at this stage.
