I'm wondering how much does an MA in the English teaching field pay off in the long run? Specifically in Korea. Does it provide a pretty good leg up for one to make a long time career of ESL in Korea or not really?

Thoughts?

You should choose to do an MA for personal development, not based on the country you are teaching in. I would totally recommend doing an MA as it will open new doors. Obviously, you won't get an immediate reward for post-graduate study, but you will start to get opportunities such as research, teacher-training and finding yourself on the lecture circuit in Korea.

Get yourself signed up for the course, and just do it. I would also recommend a University that provides an opportunity to undertake a Diploma level course (such as the DELTA) with their MA. This will set you apart from those that just have a Certificate (or an MA for that matter).
