Greetings
I am a South African currently seeking a private school position in South Korea.
Does anyone know of any good South African based recruitment agency?
Or can any South African tell me which recruiter they worked with in getting a job or recommend a recruiter willing to work with a South African with limited experience?

TeachKorea is a South African based recruiting firm.
I haven't heard good things about them at all. They are one of the few recruitment companies that charge a few to their recruitees... (or that was the case when some friends used them a few years back).
Korvia is good place to start for public schools.
If you want private schools, http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/ There are a lot of recruiters at that link, most don't discriminate against South Africans.
If you have your documents ready, are open to working anywhere and are qualified, there is no reason you shouldn't have a job lined up in under 2 weeks, South African or not. |

Although the above poster recommended Korvia, I would not. I had an extremely bad experience with Korvia and they screwed me over big time.
I've contacted over 20 recruiters and I'm not having much luck with finding jobs, I'm surprised that the above poster says that one can get a job within 2 weeks. I'm qualified and I have all my documents ready. |

Taken from another thread. Also, looking at your posts, you WERE rather picky about your job preferences (not that that is a bad thing).
By limiting yourself to PS jobs in Gyeonggi (and specifically CLOSE to Seoul), you were probably cutting ~90% of the available jobs from your radar.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Korvia, I guess each person's experience will be different. Personally, they did a great job with me. Luckily I was in Korea and able to go to an in-person interview with the school. Unfortunately, they (and all other recruiters) are only middlemen, they introduce the teacher to the school, from there on, it's up to the teacher to make it work. If you aren't in country, or you don't fit the preferences of the specific school, it can make it a bit tough. |

Which other posts of mine are you referring to? Because I don't care about the location as long as I am in Gyeonggi. I said i PREFER to be in the border of Seoul, but I am flexible. Being near Seoul is not a dealbreaker for me. In fact, I don't even want to be IN Seoul. I just happen to have friends who live right on the border of Seoul and would like to be close to there.
Honestly, i think I'm very flexible. All I care about is to be in Gyeonggi and in a public school. I don't care about the age level or anything... Is wanting only those two things actually considered picky?
Korvia didn't even bother introducing me to any schools. I was extremely, extremely, extremely disappointed in Korvia. They were polite at first and then ignored me for a long period of time, and then said there were no jobs left (even though they are still, even now, updating their job board and facebook page with new jobs) and they tried to convince me to get a hagwon job. Classic bait-and-switch technique.  |

Not that picky no.. However, you've probably cut out over 90% of the jobs available in Korea.

Which would imply, that you are open to both PS and hagwons, as well as the entire country.. thus increasing your pool of available jobs 10 fold.
FYI, As you're interested in PS positions for GEPIK. Most of the hiring now is for the Fall positions (starting september 1st). The majority of these positions are only wrapped up in LATE July. The deadline for renewing teachers is 2 months prior to the contract ending...which would have been this week. So until now, most schools in Gyeonggi weren't sure whether they'll need a teacher for the new semester or not. You'll be sure to see the job board filling up with GEPIK positions over the coming weeks. |

I agree that there will be plenty of jobs for picking within the next month - it's a perfect time for job seekers. As for Korvia - I've had a good experience with that agency -
It's interesting, because many people here praised worknplay, but within the past 5 years, every resume/document file I've sent them was always completely ignored. Odd, isn't it?
To PS - why discriminate and pick only SA based recruiting agencies? That makes no sense at all, unless you are looking for a job within the agency itself? |

I really hope you're right about the part where you said that a majority of them are just starting to hire now. I literally check the job boards in many different recruiting agencies each day and email them whenever I am interested in a position. |

| MnJ seems to recruit mostly South Africans but I think the only ever have jobs in Gyeongsangnamdo. They were really easy to deal with in terms of getting a job but a little short once everyone got here, but I would still use them again. |

The reason why I asked about S.A based agencies, or agencies which other South Africans have gone through is because the agencies I have been in contact with pretty much ignored me after a few weeks. I am assuming that this is because I am not North American and therefore not a top priority candidate.
I do have all my documents ready and I'm not fussy about location. I'm only looking at private school positions as well which also eliminates a lot of options. |
