This site's search is pretty bad, for example these two options:
Search topic title and message text
or
Search message text only
What about "Search only title."
Isn't this a field option in the software? |

Keep in mind that the forums been running since 2003. I'm sure that the settings could be changed but really it should probably have a complete change.
Most people will use google to search the site with
site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea/ searchword
Personally, I liked the old pre-2003 forum. |

I remember that there was an old forum, but I don't remember what was different about it. Care to remind me, please? Just curious. |

The old Korea board was the same format as what they're still using in the Teacher Training forum( http://www.eslcafe.com/discussion/dz1/) I can't imagine why anyone would think the old format was better than this one. |

It was like this, except I think that this is actually only a frame. I think that the original had a side frame also. I'm not sure.

Back then there was only one forum for Korea but it wasn't nearly as busy as it is today. The search function actually worked (and you could search by date or word). It was very easy to sign up. (From 2003 until 2009, I tried about dozen times to sign up but wasn't able to because most accounts weren't being approved.)
The new one isn't bad but it could be improved. Oddly enough, one of the good features of the current board when it first came out was that posters could post images within messages. That's long since been blocked though.

I'm not saying that the old forum was was better. I don't think that it was bad either (except that there was only a single forum for Korea). It was definitely easier to join the forum, and the search function worked. I also liked that the posts and replies were expanded and actually threaded (not flat like the current forum), which can be useful if people modify their titles or if you want to see who actually replied on a thread. Although, the new one also has it's advantages. |

I too hate the search [un]function here.
When I want to search multi-word, I use the google search engine.
My latest search on google was "teaching with f2 visa".
I got all my questions answered with less scrolling and squinting and faster than here.
google it! |
