Start your grad program 4 days late and the problem is solved.
Or is your grad program at home being as intransigent as your education office here?
As was pointed out, taking 4 days of unpaid leave at the end of your contract is the same as quitting 4 days early (forfeit your benefits).
Stay 4 more days for 4 million won or leave and lose it. For 1 million per day... I would stay.
Looks like you don't get to have your cake and eat it too.

It's not a question of "whether" I will have my cake and eat it too (it's not going to happen), but "should." Contractual doesn't equal reasonable, and I feel that the latter should get some recognition and advocacy.
The grad program is being intransigent, but less so, and I will in fact almost certainly stay until the end of the contract, but it's a matter of principle that I keep resisting this. |

Honestly, playing "gotcha" with the one person who can help you is seldom going to get you anywhere. |

Because I'm being unreasonable? I suppose I would be if I actually expected her to budge, but that's not going to happen - it's a lost cause, and at this point I'm just looking for other people who share my sentiment on this issue.
But I feel strongly that my position was reasonable the whole way through: there is no good reason why deskwarming here for four days is more important that higher education, and I don't know why this isn't obvious to everyone involved. The only good reason to deny my request would be that the contract is airtight, but the supervisor eventually revealed that this was an arbitrary decision by her and her alone.
If she stands by that decision, then she shouldn't be concerned if other people receive a factually accurate account of it. |

How can I sign a petition to let "a random teacher" take 4 days off. At least post your name on the petition, especially as you were pretty happy to throw your supervisors name out there. |

Which is particularly ill-advised, given Korea's libel laws. |

Does libel come into play if everything stated is true and there was not a reasonable expectation of privacy (there were witnesses present and the meeting was conducted in the middle of an open work area)?
Anyway, I wouldn't want to be at any legal risk; the name was removed. |

I think you should read something before you sign it. You might actually not get your way for once. |

I believe it does, in Korea. Obviously not in the West. |

Really? That's fascinating. I mean, people are forbidden from saying something like, "Joe kicked me yesterday," even if it was true? I guess it makes for a more polite society, but the mind reels at the thought of all those lawsuits flying around. |

Unless of course the truth was presented in a malicious manner as in Noonan v Staples. |
