Indeed, the selection of ancient cans of tuna, the stench, serving other customers before you even though you were first in line, the dust over 70% of the products in the store - I can't see why anyone would NOT choose a mom & pop store over a franchise.

You realize this stuff is just empty calories, right? As for which one is best, depends on which individual store? Some Family Marts (Soon to be CNU or CFU or CU - Convenience for you) are well stocked with many items while others are just very basic. Same goes for the other franchises too. So, you can't generalize each franchise name. You will however find more foriegn items and even some baked goods at some of the bigger franchises versus the mom and pop stores. Family Mart is the largest in Korea with over 7000 stores.

I can't see why anyone would prefer a mom and pop store. Where I'm at, they have a poorer selection of items and are priced higher.

because there are people who actually care about other people and not feeding the corporate machine? don't get me wrong, i buy a lot of corporate produced stuff at chain stores but if i have the choice between helping out independent business versus buying the same product at a chain, i will support independent business any day of the week, even if i have to pay a premium.

your thinking is exactly why there is nothing but chain restaurants, chain stores who could care less about their customers and unoriginal homogenized crap in america. korea is quickly headed in that direction but there is still a thriving independent market here.

7-11 for their ham & cheese sandwiches.

Ministop for their chicken.

Opinions?

This is the dumbest topic I've seen on Dave's in a while. Really? A conveniece store discussion? Why not ask what color shoelaces people prefer.
You need something to fill the void between classes my man.

Is there any difference? I've never noticed, except in the one 30 yards from my door they know me and serve me what I want before I have to say anything.

I disagree. From reading this thread, I have learned that Ministop fried chicken is worth trying. That's more than I get out of most threads on this board.

This post is representative of so many on this board: "I don't understand how anyone could form a different impression than mine. Certainly my experiences and impressions are universal."
