Hi all,

So I've heard that it is possible to expedite an FBI CBC request in the US by contacting a local US representative or senator's office and having them contact the FBI on my behalf. Has anyone done this before? I also read that it requires a postal tracking number (which I don't have) to be located in the FBI's system.

I just placed a phone call to the FBI who confirmed they received my request on June 21, but that it's averaging 5-6 weeks to process the requests. This would place the estimated completion at August 2, followed by probably 5 days in transit back to me. If anything, I would like to have it in my possession by August 2 so that I can begin the apostille process ASAP.

Additionally, does anyone have experience using overnight mail and a courier service in Washington DC to complete the US State Dept apostille in just a few days? Does anyone know how much this may cost? (State Dept will apostille documents during in-office visits on weekday mornings, thus a courier could be hired to do this and reduce the 10 day turnaround to a single day)

Thanks!

I was told this as well, and contacted my congresswoman. Her office called me back the next day and explained that they cannot interfere with a process like that - this was for New York, and maybe it differs from state to state or even district to district, but that is what I was told.

Wow, did you ever think for a second that it might be unethical to use a method clearly meant for emergencies just so you don't have to stay at your parent's place for a month.

There's a physical screening of all documents mailed to the FBI. This is a radiation treatment of the mail and it takes a few weeks, 5 IIRC. No matter how much your Congressman wishes to expedite your request, he cannot speed up physics.

It's about $40 with Rush Docs, which has been recommended by folks here.

Most helpful response in this thread, A+.

I'm in contact with the office right now, thanks for the info.

I submitted my CBC application June 20, and with the help of Sen. Cardin's office received the completed check on July 9 -- less than 3 weeks. But you're right, they did ask for the UPS tracking number in order to find it in their system.

Maybe his parent's refuse to keep him and maybe the government should employ more technicians to get the work done faster in a few weeks and maybe they should offer expedited services if a person is willing to pay substantially more money. It's the government's fault not the OP's. The waiting time so a citizen can get some pay teaching is ridiculous.
