I have just completed 2 years in China. Right now I am thinking of teaching in Korea. But I need to know:
How long would it take to get the E-2 visa if I start today? I will be applying from the U.K. I would like U.K. people who have applied in the last year or 2 how long it took them, including getting the apostilles.
Any special requirements for letters of recommendation. Any nasty surprisses or unexpected delays? Any positive information that would make the process easier would be welcome, thank you. I am thinking of applying for hagwon jobs, but not in Seoul, where competition is maybe too fierce. |

You should be able to get your documents together within 3 weeks. I think it took me about 12 working days to get it all together. You then have to add 5 days for visa processing and 12 days on the Korean end. I reckon you could be in Korea within 2 months if you start today. |

I've been through it all in the last two months. It should be 10 days max for disclosure Scotland and their basic disclosure. Then once that's back take it and a copy (plus original) of your degree to a public notary to get that done.
Then send it all to the FCO at Milton Keynes for the apostilles. It could all be done in two weeks but maybe a little bit more .
I was working on a tight deadline and actually got my E2 visa here in Korea after coming in as a tourist. It saved me 80 by not going through the Korean embassy in London and simply doing a 'change of sojourn' at an immigration office.
Of course the experts on here tell you that it's not possible to get an e2 in Korea and talk about visa runs but this clearly isn't the case.
My advice is to get you stuff together and then start applying. I can even recommend a top recruiter if you PM me. |
