Homer. It's people like you who make me sick. What the hell do you think you are accomplishing sticking up for this mob? Do you really think that they think of you any different than a foreigner? You're just a white devil to them all.
So what. You come on this board put your self righteousness across, like a shining bible? "All hear me... The great Homer. Koreans aren't all bad. In fact I was sitting down eating my Kimchi tonight, and I was eating with my mouth open like a dog with a good piece of meat. You know there is a lot to be said for doing it like this... Koreans really are pretty smart."
Look. They see everything in terms of them and us. So I shall to. There is them. The Koreans. And us. The foreigners. Till I meet a Korean that can do the following things.
1. Eat with your mouth closed you filthy dog. I've seen dogs eat slower, more refined meals than 99.9% of Koreans. Does it really get you going Homer when you see a Korean talking on the phone while shovelling rice and kimchi down their throat?
2. Move out of the way. It is a society here. Other places have higher population densities than Korea but they still get along.
3. Stop bloody staring at anything that is different. You've all seen a foreigner before. Get over it.
4. Be honest in your dealings with other people. Be them in business or in personal relationships. Don't screw people over and just tick it up to. "Well that's how we do things in Korea."
5. Realise that your living in a common world here. Not everything begins and ends outside the Republic of South Korea.
6. Don't whine on and on about how hard done by you are. So the Japanese screwed you over.
7. Stop being the rascist pigs that you are. The Japanese bear no animosity towards you. Why should you against them?
8. Remember that without the rest of the world you'd be singing the praises of the Great Leader.
9. Get a culture of your own for God's sake. Invent something. Other than a writing system. That's not difficult. A lot of cultures and societies have invented writing systems.
10. If you all speak English. It is polite to speak English if that is the common language. Not have the Korean corner and the English corner.
11. If you say you are going to do something. Do it. Don't just make a half arsed attempt so it looks good.
12. A society has a system of laws. These laws are designed to aid and protect people. For example. A red light means any vehicles facing that light should stop. Not roll forward or scream through with hazard lights on.
13. You and your confucian circle are not the only things in the whole world.
But then again.... If they did all this and more... I'm only stopping because I have to go now... They'd be close to what resembles civil human beings wouldn't they? Not Koreans?
Nuff said.

So was that an attack on Korean because that goes through my mind everyday. But maybe I just need a holiday or move to a place where I can talk to more foreigners every now and then.
Yeah but this is the way Koreans do things and it works for them.
I still try my best to change the world to be more open. |

| Sometimes the Enlish lanuage is not used completely literally, it's a little thing called "usage", where we all understand what is being said, even when the meaning differs somewhat from the literal words. So when someone says "Koreans are racist" the sane amoung us understand the statement to mean "There is a higher proportion of racists in Korea than in my home country" ( or something similar ). No one is dumb enough to think that any quality applies absolutely to a population, we're talking about tendencies. So for you to continually point out "But it's not all of them" is entirely redundant. No one said it was all of them, just a lot of them. You act like it's so vital to carefully word each statement so as to ensure it's clear that we don't mean every single Korean, just a significant proportion of them. All the while, this pedantic literalism serves as subterfuge for you, taking focus away from what you don't want to face, namely that a lot of the complaints, while not true of every Korean, are, for the most part, solidly based in factual reality. You're actually lucky that posters mess up by using absolute language, if you couldn't complain about that you'd have to really face the issues we're talking about |
Well said...Possible post of the week candidate |

Jesus Peemil,
That was worthy of a KKK meeting.
You blast Koreans for being rude, racist and a bunch of other things when your post clearly indicates that you see them as inferior and you as superior...blatant racism.
The live in a relatively closed and homogenous society with strong traditions towards concervatism...
You on the other come from a western nation thats open to the world..so whats your excuse?
Finally with what you just said, I am glad I make you sick...it is in fact quite reassuring. |

| Guess the fundamental difference here is people are using different syllogisms to back their argument. |

| Homer, I will waste no more bandwidth on you for now, but since you did display a modicum of humanity on your last post, I will stand you to a beer the next time I'm in Seoul. Cheers. |

Nice word, syllogism ...
Peemil, you might be going a bit over the top there. I'm with you on some of those points but not on others. And your choice of words doesn't support your cause. You've done just what Homer likes you to do, you've gone too far and made your position seem unreasonable. And now he's probably even more convinced that he's right.
As for me, I have my complaints, and I'm very careful how I word them. I mean it when I post, it's not just venting or blowing off steam from a tough day. |

kiwi,
I assume you have a functionning brain and that you learned to read and write at a decent school.
If so, it should be obvious to anyone that I do not profess to be "right" and that others who do not share my opinion are "wrong".
I state my opinions on things, thats all.
I too have my complaints. I just choose not to come on here and vent about them and then apply them to entire groups. Is that so difficult for you to understand?
If anyone is obsessed with being right and truly believes he is right and others wrong it would be you.
Reading many of your posts that becomes evident.
I did not "like" what peemil wrote in his last post and it did not make me anymore "right".
What that post did was show how illogical his stance is since he seems to have the same racist attitudes that he accuses Koreans of having.
That is akin to calling a thief a criminal when one is a robber..... |

Well... Did I write that? I suppose for the most part I vent off a lot of steam on this forum. Can tend to make my posts exactly what Homer tends to call "straight from a KKK meeting." But I am exactly this... An emotional sort of chap. I do tend to shoot first and think later. Having the last few weeks I've had in Korea, (not to make excuses,) but it does tend to scew my opinions into pure flame and anger.
So let's just leave it at an olive branch. I got no more anger left at the moment. But wait till next time. |

I dunno, do people drive like blithe, egocentric, dangerous to the world Peter Pans in suburbans in the West? It's been a few years since I've been back. I saw a near-accident today just after the 'guy in the Musso/suburban' whooshed past like an arrow shot out of a bow 'as the crow flies' slaloming left and right around 'still traffic'. He nearly hit a Chinese food driver, there was the screech of brakes, a skid mark for ten meters and he pulled over amidst smoking rubber to chill, then carried on. I've wondered if all this 'proud', dangerous driving is a venting, like piling back the alcohol, to forget about the boss having his thumbs on you slowly pressing. I can't think of anything positive about this kind of driving, so I won't 'miss it' when I'm gone (particularly if I die on the road).
I also won't miss kimchi. |
