Sounds really lame to me; USA style suck-the-fun-out-of-everything.
Relaxing on a sunny Sunday in the park with your woman, having a picknick, and drinking a beer is great.
I'll just keep doing it and pay the silly fine. |

Please, can't stop a cultural heritage/trait. Like the little dutch boy with his finger in the dam. It works in the States 'cause at the very formation of that nation, public drinking was outlawed if not frowned upon.
Try doing that here? The U.S. beef uproar will look like paddy-cake. |

I hope they strongly enforce at Hongdae playground. That place is a state every morning as i walk past it on my way to work. The "toocoolforschool" gang should be made to pick up their own bottles, cans and crap. |
You either live or work in Hongdae. You don't like people drinking in public, yet you, as a foreigner, have chosen to come to live and work in Korea, and you chose Hongdae. The place of all places in Korea that you chose to move from your home country to work, was Hongdae, the most famous night club and drinking area in Korea. Hongdae.

Im partner in business 2 mins from the playground. if "toooldtohavefun" means not vomiting on businesses steps, spraying the walls, pissing in flowerpots and generally wrecking the place then maybe i am too old. Im 28. |
Yes, moving drinking from in a park to inside buildings will stop people from being drunk. I agree with your impeccable logic here.
I'm sure your business will do well as a result of the implementation of these laws you support. |

This is pretty funny.
Korea passes laws and rules to better regulate the activities of people (smoking and drinking restrictions, driving and parking restrictions) and people here complain Korea is no fun anymore. Yet, many of those same people will complain all day long how Korea is barbaric, lacks rules and is chaotic or how koreans have no manners and drink and smoke too much in public.
Hilarious. |
All rules are the same. |

Just recently, public school teachers can't smoke outside due to it being a negative light on the children.
And their also prohibiting smoking inside restaurants and going the California route starting in 2014.
With all of the CCTV's and the crackdown on personal freedoms, it's easy to say that S. Korea is becoming more Big Brother each and every day.
This coming from a non-smoker and non-drinker. |
Really? Is this just a Seoul thing? This is the first I've heard. |

Do you have any evidence for this? Can you show that a single poster on Dave's Cafe has complained about Korea restricting smoking and drinking on one thread and complained about Koreans smoking and drinking too much on another? because if you can't show any real proof I think people will tend to assume that one set of posters complains about Koreans drinking and smoking too much and a different group of posters complains about the restrictions on these activities. |

Since when does drinking in public or drinking in general mean dropping and leaving rubbish all over the place? |
