In any case, Edward, you live in Seoul, correct? You are more than welcome to come out and meet my coworker and me. He loves meeting people and he will no doubt tell you all I've mentioned and so much more. Just send me a PM and we'll arrange a time and place.

this is too funny. imagine one morning your coworker comes up to you and asks you to meet some guy he's never met in person, only online. and the reason your coworker wants you to meet this stranger is because he doesn't believe all the personal stuff he's been posting about you online, and he would like you to confirm that everything he's written about you is true.LOL Shocked

Funniest thing I've read on Dave's all week Smile

If you're still working in the job you were injured in I'd advise staying there; they have a moral as well as legal obligation to you, something you'd lose if you changed employer.

I don't know why he left, though I can guess, but I do know why he stays: he loves Korea. That's all there is to it. He loves the Korean people, the food, and the scenery. He has told me that he will die here and has already made plans to donate his body to science.

Soooo...it's a woman. Isn't it? A woman probably considerably younger than him, isn't she? I love how we hear this story again and again. Old white Western man comes to Asia at the tail end of life. Why? Oh, he loves 'the people' and the food and the scenery and the quality of life, and the value system, and the laid-back attitudes...

Yeah. Right. Of course. And the woman, or women, have NOTHING to do with it. I'm sure she, or they, don't. Or is it, again, that kimchi fever is even STRONGER on the old than the young? Yes, I'd say that it is.

He did a have a lady love, yes, though they can no longer be together. A tragic story. But these days, he still has a girlfriend, though she is black and has only one eye: his trusty Canon camera. With his girlfriend in tow, my coworker makes his way around Seoul and throughout the peninsula, capturing the breathtaking beauty that evinces itself throughout this wonderful nation. For the kindness that Koreans show him, his doctors, his coworkers, our employer, my coworker is forever grateful.

I think I've seen his photos online, is your friend Peter? His stuff is very nice.

I hope you never get as sick as he is, and if you did there would be people around you as helpful as you're being. Don't be dismayed by other people's cynical reactions; once bitten twice as shy and all that. TBH when I first read about it I wondered whether it was legit. An older guy who's an ex executive of a major multinational company and law professor asking lots of people with student debts for money seems inappropriate. Of course circumstances will skew what is and isn't the 'done thing' so it's not a bad thing that he's doing, but online you see so much BS it's hard to distinguish motives.

His photos are at http://saphotography.ning.com/profile/PeterJVenter for anyone interested.

I think edwardcatflap owes two apologies. First to FC for his relentless trolling and cynicism. And to me for hijacking a thread a created in hopes of finding any sort of help/advice. Or at least to hear from someone who has gone through something similar.
I doubt any sort of apology will be forthcoming...so why don't you just crawl into a hole, Edward.

Thanks for those few who have actually contributed something. I appreciate it.

Lighten up a bit, I was having a laugh with the guy. And as an indirect result of that, the 'funniest thing on Dave's all week' was created, so it's not all bad. In case you haven't realised it this forum is not specifically for people asking for information and getting sober, sensible replies. A bit of banter tends to go on as well. Some people go on here when they're bored at work and are looking for a bit of light relief and when a comment catches their eye they sometimes want to respond to the individual comment instead of the topic of the thread. If people were not allowed to do that and have a bit of fun, fewer people would browse this site and you would get fewer replies to questions about your operation.
