can anyone shed some light on this bizarre pension situation.
i worked for 5 months at K-army teaching english. i decided to go back home.
i call the pension office with an army person who acts as a go between for these types of matters
after they chatted in korean, the coworkers tells me that the army just gives me 5months worth of pension back... then she asks for my bankbook.
a few days later, she asks me to work on a sunday along with everyone else. i say no because they told me 2days in advance and i already had tickets books. plus, next tuesday is my very last day.
2 hours after i said NO
i get an email saying "army policy, we made mistake, army doesn't do pension unless work over one year."
obviously i can't get any info until monday
any ideas??
I can't believe a matter like this would be open for army (or any) interpretation. it's a simple matter! |

They are supposed to register you. You waited too long to address this. Learn and move on. |

Learn and move on? Uh, NO. Sue. Get your money, or at least report them and make them pay a fine. Don't sit back like YTMND and be a sissy. |

LOL, and waste more money? What are you going to sue for? They didn't pay into the system. They were going to pay directly under the table.
The expense to sue doesn't warrant this small amount in this case. In the future, make sure you are the "employee" and get pension contributions taken out for your share on pay day and then make sure twice as much is given to the pension office each month. Don't wait 5 months.
Again, learn and move on. |

I replied on the duplicate thread before noticing this one and the other replies...
It would not surprise me if you get no pension refund.
It wouldn't surprise if pension is different - that you would at least get the money you paid into it back...
...but...most things are tied to putting in at least 6 months into the job. Many other things are tied to finishing at least 12-months.
It is worth checking out, but don't be surprised if you don't get it back.
Has it been taken out of your pay each month? |

The next thing to answer is, did they contribute this to the pension office? Think out the steps. Where would you collect the money? Make sure those people get it. |

well, the pension people told the army that they pay it.. so i guess that just means the army never paid anything to the pension office..
but i guess they have found a loophole not to pay.. of course i can threaten to make a webpage detailing all of this.. but i guess the pension office can't help or else why would the army not pay |

How do you know the pension office will pay out in your case? Did you talk to them directly?
That is what you need to do.
You need to make sure that you are entitled to a refund even at 5 months in.
If you are, then you have to check if the pension office has recieved the money and request it. You have to fill out a request form and turn it into the pension office yourself.
If they haven't been giving the money to pension office, but they have been taking it out of your pay, you need to ask the pension office how to proceed.
If they don't do enforcement, then you contact the labor board.
5 month's worth of pension out of your pay is worth trying to get. |

If you worked for the government your pension deductions would have gone into the national pension (NPS). You can get a refund of that account by simply applying for it at your local NPS office provided you are from one of the 3 countries entitled to a refund and you are leaving the country.
I suspect that they are thinking of the severance (also referred to as a pension) and you are not entitled to that until you have completed a full year of employment and that comes from the employer.

What if the school deducted money from his pay, but did not put the money in the proper place? How long would it take him to receive the pension if he went to the National Pension Office and had them contact his employer? |

Show proof of deductions and a contract and they get on it pretty quickly.
The refund should be sent home in about 90 days.

He's not even "going home" though.
He's flying out of the country for a temporary holiday then returning. |
