I used to see reserves bunch gather for soccer every Sunday morning when I was living just across from a school. Perhaps not all meetings are compulsory.

How often are you supposed to report to reserve training after you finished with your service? Is it until you are 35 and over?

And is it by monthly or how does it go?

Hopefully it doesn't take away your freedom too much after you do your service

The first four years after your discharge, you're part of the 동원예비군 (mobilization reserves). They call you in once every year for three days during the week. Almost always Tue-Thursday from what I know. In special cases, or if you just flat out miss it, you have to report later in the year to a 5-day exercise. I can't tell you all the details on that because I didn't bother to look it up.

After the first four years, you then have to serve as 향방예비군 (Not sure what it is in English) for another four years, then after that you're part of 민방위 (Civil defense) until you're 40.

Edit: After a little bit of navering, it turns out 향방is short for 향토방위 (Homeland Defense). Boy do I feel stupid.

Three days isn't a lot, the training is pretty much non-existent, but it's still retarded and pointless (perhaps even more pointless than active-duty service). I gave them two years of my youth, I don't care to give them another hour, much less three days. Oh and they give you 10,000won for your troubles ha.
