I understand the conservative culture, but today the air con was broken and we were told it will not be fixed for a couple of weeks. In the office it has to be 90 degrees or more. I am sure it has been asked, but why can the female teachers wear shorts that are up to their asses, but I cannot wear some nice shorts? I asked and was told no.
Is there any law that your office should not be so hot that you can faint? |

because women are expected to show leg, and men are expected to wear long pants. it's just how it is. |

If your legs are sexy then just go there with shorts on to prove it to all that see you.
One glance from them and you're all set. |

It's too late for that. However, where did this crap come from? I just spoke with my co-teacher and she literally said it's 'bulls*it'. Normally I wouldn't make an issue out of it, but if they're expecting us to be in the office NOT getting paid, the least they can do is allow us to not suffer in this heat. |

You took the wrong approach. You should have done what i did.
I thought about the same issue, but instead of asking i just wore shorts to work. Sometimes asking can be the worst thing. Just do something you want, and they might avoid the conflict/confrontation so they'll just let it slip. |

I'm very much against foreigners who dress like crap to work, but in this weather. I mean damn. How can anyone be expected to wear pants? Usually I change at work, since I sweat through my clothes walking to work, but today, nope I taught in my gym clothes. I apologized to my students, and they understood. (Hell, they were wearing gym clothes too!!) |

Well, I didn't expect the AC to be broken and one of the Korean teachers asked. Oh yeah, our manger's office has no AC issues at all, so it's no wonder he won't allow us to wear shorts. My shorts are nice and they would be accompanied by a nice button-up shirt.
I just heard that it won't be fixed for a few WEEKS. These working conditions are abhorrent. I'm still failing to see why this is such a big deal to them. Who will REALLY mind? The kids won't care, the other teachers don't care, what's the big deal? |

OP try wearing a skirt tomorrow and see what happens. I mean a modest-one past your knees not a mini skirt. Women wear skirts, pants, and shorts. Why can't you???
On a serious note-GET SICK! ALOT! Complain of the heat often and loudly. Complain of headaches and pass out. Drag yourself in late and beg to leave early due to heat exhaustion. Hog the fan. Drink so much water you pee every 30 minutes. Beg for ice and ask your coworkers/boss/ whoever to go buy you ice cream. Do this repeatedly until they do it. Then do it over and over again. However, make sure you wear pants everyday. I've seen countless Canadians use this tactic and it works. (Ok I'm a little tongue in cheek about the Canadians here) You will be forgiven sooner or later. |

I'd be disgusted if I wasn't allowed to wear shorts over the summer vacation. I suppose I'd be forced to spend my time away from the higher ups with jeans rolled up above my knees. I don't spend time in the vice principle's office during the day anyway, but if I did I'd be looking for somewhere else to be during the day. A staff room on a different floor, or the English room etc.

If you want to wear shorts (board or Bahama shorts not short shorts) then you gotta wear long socks. |
