So Koreans have become more anti-Japanese within the past decade, but their view of America has improved significantly. |

The first four are expected, but Iraq? I wonder if its because of Kim Sun Il. I still find it funny people hate China and Japan more than North Korea. |

"Familiarity breeds contempt"
It is ironic that the three countries South Korea is most like and emulates (Japan, China, and America) are the most hated. |

It's not a very grown up poll is it? They could have made it a bit more scientific by asking more specific questions like 'what country would you most/least like to live in/visit/experience the culture of etc...'What is your least favourite country?' seems to be just encouraging simplistic knee- jerk prejudice. |

^ i agree. this is a very stupid poll that certainly has some intentions.
it just represents opinions of haters or they just want to grab some attention. again very stupid and ill-spirited. |

Pretty childish poll, agreed. In any case Koreans have a lot of anger and indignation towards other nations - the poll should more likely be "Most hated countries" and "Least hated countries", lol.
For what it's worth the neighboring countries on the least are getting weary of the ROK also, the ones further afield have likely never heard of the place - other than reference to a war. |

It would be interesting to see the American response to this question.
I'm sure Canadians would say the US first. But that doesn't in any imply that we are closer to say Argentina than we are to the US. We just don't have that many connections with Argentina, so less opportunities to get mad at them.
Koreans hate Japanese but Korea is basically a clone of Japan. And they share a alliance partner. And they are major trading partners. It's rivalry. It's hard to distinguish rivalry from hate, but there is a difference. |

Really? Gee and all this time I thought it had to do with the fact the Japan conquered Korea and treated the majority of Koreans as second (or perhaps even third) class citizens within the Japanese empire. |

Most people would think that because that's the obvious answer. But take a little time to think about it and you realize that can't the case. Why? Because angst against Japan is rising not falling. Let's say you punch me in the face. At the time I blow it off, but then 50 years later and I call you up and say I'm pissed at you for punching me in the face. Also, where has the anti-German anger gone from WW2? These days Americans are more likely to hate on the French, their allies in WW2!, and the war of independence!! The Vietnamese. Again their anger against the US is diminishing and that event is even more recent than the 1910 annexation.
Where rivalry doesn't exist, wrongdoings are soon forgotten.
Canada vs. the USA = sport rivals
The USA vs. China = military, political, and economic rivals
The USA vs. France = ideological rivals (elitism vs. populism)
Scotland vs. England = political, economic, cultural, sport rivals |

A lot of the America backlash in 2002 was basically due to Bush (post 9/11 immigration policies and rising oil prices due to war in Afghanistan) as he was unpopular in most of the world, where as today, Obama is quite loved and respected. |

Or because the media was stirring up the strongest anti-American sentiment in years because of the armored vehicle running over the girls in Uijeongbu just days before the survey took place. Couple that with the extreme nationalism from the World Cup and that's why Korea hated America in 2002. |

Well, that too.
I got here right after that happened so it's not really ingrained into my mind. |

That used to be how I ranked them, but since being in Korea and having to deal with Canadians and realizing how hateful they were toward America for no reason, I'd put them before France now.
1. Canada
2. France |

Actually number one is probably all those muslimly araby terrorist looking countries we've been told to hate/fear for the past decade. Canada, we barely remember they're there most of the time. |
