|
|
I want to know does anyone know if I can get an after school position with a D-10 visa.
I recently left my job after 6 months, got a release letter, and am about to change to a D-10 visa but is that going to stop me from getting an after school position?
Positions for after school always ask for people who have transferable E-2 visas. But that's so the school doesn't have to go through all the paper work right? Doesn't the D-10 do kind of the same thing?
Anyone know any information about this?
Thanks |

Yes, if you are/were on an E2 and switched to a D10 you can easily transfer to a new employer and switch back to an E2.
(paperwork for changing D10-E2 is the same as a transfer E2 to E2).

Just to clarify.. Ttompaz is right about the ease of switching from a D-10 to an E-2, I just wanted to make sure you weren't asking if you could work at an afterschool program while on a D-10.. The answer to that question is no... you cannot do any work while on a D-10, and if you are caught, you will be fined and deported.
Cheers! |

Warning about D 10 visas!
Even though it's the right thing to do and the legal thing to do. No one knows what a D 10 is. When you go to that job interview and tell them you're on a D 10 they will dismiss you immediately. They want to see documents not a D 10. You'll scare them off and they will move on to the next candidate no matter how qualified you are.
School directors know everything about the English business and will never lose face to a foreigner trying to explaing what a D 10 is to them. |

I noticed this a bit with recruiters. There is hope though. I just signed a contract with a school that is getting my d10 back to an e2
I'm glad I got a d10. Doing it the old visa run way would have cost so much more. |

This is the surprising bit. The people you expect who should know the ins and out of the ESL industry and immigration policy, do not. Remember owners usually deal with immmigration once or twice a year. Then it usually goes the same way A..B..C..D... When asked to go A...B...E... D... they get all confused.
Recruiters can be a bit the same way. In their case, they usually want A...B...C...D... or E...F...G... but if something different comes along which might mean more work or thinking, they will just say no.
What you need to explain to them is YOU CAN TRANSFER and that they do not need to worry their little heads about the immigration paperwork. |

Am i correct in thinking that the transfer from D10 to E2 is immediate. If I go to immigration with my new boss and do the transfer then I can begin work straight away. I am out of the country and my recruiter is telling me that there is a waiting period of 3 weeks before the transfer is completed????? |

As ttompatz said it is just like the E2 transfer. It should be pretty much same day or day stated on contracted/paperwork.
Maybe the recruiter is confused about one part of the process. For some people there is a problem when getting a D-10 and that is getting the ARC updated, as they will take the card and that can take time to get done. Maybe the same way again, but that would be minor as your computer file will just be updated.
Another thought is your recruiters just wants you to wait three weeks. He has a job, but not till a bit later. You have the job, but it does not start till later. Transfer and contract dates do not line up.
Maybe it is a mis-communication/lost in translation situation.
Or could it could be straight BS, he is stretching the truth to make the situation better for him. "Sorry Mr. Smith, the job you really like and lined up is filled, even through you signed a contract for it. As luck would have it another school that is ready for you in the 3 weeks it takes to it takes to process.
Or it could just be plain ignorance and lack of information. Recruiter just does not know. He had not enough experience with D-10s.
Good Luck. |

The recruiter and the job are solid. So yeah, there must be a confusion about the updating of the ARC when transferring from D10 to E2 which could possibly could take up to 3 weeks.
I was doubting myself this morning after the recruiter called me to say that I would have to return and hang around Busan for 3 weeks before starting work or else apply for a new E2. I told her there was a good reason for getting the D10, ie to make things easier not difficult. She told me that two immi officials had informed her of this 3 week transfer time. |

Yeah i've been applying for about six weeks and i started to suspect that this was the case a couple of weeks ago. Especially with the market being so competitive right now.
What i originally thought would be a real plus point for me has perhaps turned out to actually be a negative. So I stopped mentioning it in my cover letter. |
