I live in a really beautiful valley in Gyeonggi....without a car you can't access it though because no buses from Seoul drive through it.

I think it's funny to note that nearly everyone here agrees with me. You know, the guy who points out that Korea is absolutely butt-ugly, ESPECIALLY its cities. Anyplace out in the country that isn't overtly ugly is dull, and ALWAYS contaminated by the ugly blocks and garish signs and random crap piled along every road in the country. It's only after you've mercifully left this country that you remember pretty places actually are quite common in other countries.

luckylady: 'the view from the window as the plane takes off': absolutely true. The best way to see Korea is to see it disappearing behind you.

Patrick: 'parts of Busan are great.' Really? 'some are pretty interesting from a historical perspective.' REALLY?! What parts would those be? I spent days looking for any parts of Busan like that, just seemed like any old sprawling ugly mess of blocks and squat ugly buildings. They have more highway overpasses than usual. Their main river smells like ****. Um. There's LOTS of big block buildings. Uh. The beach is all right, considering it's Korean, I guess. That bridge was not bad. But really, it was just another ugly Korean city. 'Historical?' Please. Try China if you want proper historic fabric in a city.

Bottom line: there are no pretty places in Korea. But lots of them in Asia. Save your money and you'll see for yourself.
