Apple is actively seeking new parts suppliers in an attempt to dump Samsung altogether. Apple even bought a chip manufacturer to help in this process. This has been in the news several times this year. It will take another year or two to accomplish, but by this time next year or the year after, Apple will no longer be buying any parts from Samsung, so I don't think we'll see your first conjecture come to fruition.
Second, as I pointed out earlier, Apple has not raised product prices, and has certainly not done so in the name of inflation. Yes, Apple charges much more for its devices than other companies do. As a result, Apple makes much more profit from each item sold than other companies do.
For example, it's estimated that Apple makes over $500 profit from each iPhone.
http://mobile.slashdot.org/story/12/04/08/0546247/google-earns-2-per-handset-apple-575
http://www.bgr.com/2011/10/06/apple-maintains-big-margins-on-iphone-4s-according-to-ubm-analysis/
That's a hell of a lot of money and it provides a huge cash cushion to weather things like inflation, a sudden spike in memory prices, display prices, etc. It's that hefty profit that allows Apple to leave prices unchanged over the long term.
I'm not here to argue what Apple should or shouldn't charge for its products. Yes, Apple most certainly charges more for its products than other companies do. It has done this for decades. And, for decades it has worked quite well. If people don't find value in something, they simply won't buy it. Over the last decade, Apple's market share has gone from 2% to 5%, so there are people out there willing to pay what Apple is asking.
And here's the important thing. The price Apple is asking provides Apple with enough profit to avoid raising product prices each year.
This is why I stand by the idea that this, or any other lawsuit, will not result in the price of the iPhone, iPad, etc. going up. There's already too much profit built into each product for this to happen.
As for iTunes, yes, I've heard that the Windows version of iTunes is pretty bad, but I guess that's to be expected. iTunes on a Mac is apparently much, much better. |

So, Patrick, you were asked to provide any evidence to support your claim that Apple would likely raise the price of the iPhone as a result of this lawsuit and the fact that Apple might now "corner" the smartphone market as a result.
What do you come back with after a freaking week of searching? Five links to articles about how Apple is the big bad wolf of industry and how Apple copies everyone and doesn't innovate.
So, I take it this means you were unable to find even a single article that showed factual proof Apple was likely to raise prices as a result of this lawsuit.
Guess it's time for you to admit you were wrong and go your merry way. |

week of searching?
You need some help man. I did this search in 5 minutes today just for fun.
You win your case super lawyer.
Apple is sending you a merit badge as a junior crusader of the Steve Jobs brigade too. |

Well, you disappeared from this thread for a week, so what were we to assume?
I guess you sat around trying to figure out what to do and then came to the conclusion that a 5 minute search for something completely unrelated to what you were supposed to provide would suffice. Right?
Your teachers must have loved you... "I know it's not what you asked for, but at least I did something, so that should be good enough." |

Response to the bolded part...lets see that I had other things to do ALL WEEK than do some "research" for a discussion board thread? lol
Jebus Cripes.
I just posted this after a 5 minute search on Friday when I saw this thread was still going.

You posted on other threads on this forum during the last week, so I guess you weren't too busy for those. Just too busy for this thread?
Dude, you're like a cartoon character. Do you want us to laugh at you? Until this point, I have tried very hard not to insult your intelligence, but you are making it very hard to continue this. |

The U.S Department of Justice disagrees with you.

(Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department has warned Apple and five major U.S. publishers that it plans to sue them, accusing them of colluding to raise the prices of electronic books, a person familiar with the probe said on Thursday. |

Apple's push for agency pricing was detailed in Walter Isaacson's biography of Apple founder Steve Jobs.
The book says that Jobs, who died in October, was aware of publishers' frustration with Amazon. It quotes Jobs as saying: "So we told the publishers, 'We'll go to the agency model, where you set the price, and we get our 30 percent and yes, the customer pays a little more but that's what you want anyway.' ... So they went to Amazon and said, 'You're going to sign an agency contract or we're not going to give you the books.'" |

And not only that...but Patrick is likely correct about prices being raised for Apple products although not for the reasons he stated.
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/308182/20120302/apple-foxconn-iphone-ipad-macbook-ipod-china.htm
Industry experts expect the prices to go up not down. Unless someone is an industry expert here...I'm going to go with their opinion.

Apple is currently auditing the Foxconn factories in China which manufacture many of its products like the iPhone, following a spate of bad publicity over working conditions there. As demand for higher wages and increased safety regulations at the factories goes up, so will the price of Apple's products, some industry analysts are saying.
]Last month, the Fair Labor Association began auditing two Foxconn sites in Shenzhen, China, which was publicized in an ABC Nightline video exclusive. Hong Kong-based market analyst Alberto Moel told the Wall Street Journal that the results of the FLA's audit, expected sometime this month, will likely lead to improved working conditions at the factory and ultimately raise production costs for Apple. This cost, however, will likely be placed upon the consumer in the form of increased retail prices for Apple products.
"In the end, it's a 'win-win' for everybody except the end-consumer, who will probably end up paying more," Moel told the Journal. |

Dude, that has nothing to do with the California Apple IP suit and you know it. That article is concerned with a labor suit.
Samsung copied, Apple will recover damages, and the end-consumer isn't any worse off for it. |

I never said it did.
It was a response to Mr. etopkorea's statement below.
