I wanted to share my bad experience with ARK:

After over a month of back and forth emails with fosters for a certain dog, a 3 page application and a lot of follow up emails the fosters came to visit our home. My husband and I spent a few hours with the dog while the fosters went shopping and spent at least another hour going over the details of the dog's history etc. 2 days later we received an email saying that they needed a few days to think over the situation and see if we could adopt the dog. A few days after that we finally got confirmation that we could indeed adopt the dog and to come over on the weekend. We got excited and started making plans and did some shopping to get ready for the dog.

Less than 24 hours before we were to pick up the dog we got another email apologizing, telling us that the foster parents are just to attached to let him go. I'm really angry right now, especially that we were investigated so thoroughly (even to the point of being asked if/when we are planning on having kids) before being approved to adopt this dog, and it has all ended up in such an emotional roller coaster.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but there is not much they can do if the owners refuse to give up the dog, is there?

It sounds like they also invested their time into it as well and that things worked out best for the dog in the end, which lends them credibility in my opinion. Do the people who work for them even get paid? Maybe you should give them another chance.

Sorry this happened to you but I find it rather sad that you are posting this here. Is this your way of getting even? What's the point in posting this here? To make sure that no one else goes to them? Are you saying they should have ripped the animal out of the other person's arms and given it to you instead because of all the paperwork and hassle you went through...seriously? Give this some more time and thought.

I don't love some of the ARK personalities, but they do help a lot of animals. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get the dog that you were in love with, but why not rescue another furry friend? There are plenty in need of loving families. Check out the vets in your area. Many of them have pets in need of homes, because people often drop off strays or unwanted animals there. That's how we got our pooch.

It's very possible the dog had a bad experience with children. It obviously was something they thought important enough of to seek answers. They want to know what it is going to be like now and in the future. They don't want to see the dog have to leave another home because of a potential issue. That's forward-thinking and proactive which I applaud.

I don't think that asking if you planned on having kids was really that in-depth a question.

I understand that one having dealt with a woman involved with a certain animal shelter who volunteered every weekend and made sure everyone knew that she volunteered every weekend like she was trying to win a medal or something. I guess you need to keep your eyes on the bigger picture and ignore some of the jerks. It's like trying to eat vegetarian food because it's good for your health but it can be disillusioning when some of those arrogant, snobby vegetarians make it into a contest. Keep your eyes on the big picture and ignore the jerks.

Exactly.

Some of the people we talked to were actually pretty rude. One of my friends wanted to adopt a dog, and they kept telling her that foreigners aren't the best pet owners because they abandon dogs. She's nearly 50 and not some kid straight out of university. She was pretty offended. She still adopted the dog, though.

Oh, come on NYC Gal, you've been in Korea long enough to know that the old people are usually creepier and more unstable. The old hag I replaced at my current job went through at least four different pets, whose progeny are possibly eating my trash at the moment. I think the olden deserve extra screening because they're probably lonelier and more likely to be mentally ill if they came to Korea at such a ripe age, not that that is the case with your grandma you mentioned.

LOL I do know some weird old girls, but this one has been here for going on 10 years, and even moved house in order to keep the dog.
