EPIK has a tiered pay scale and as long as you have a document(s) to prove you've worked those 4 full years (quarter/half years don't count) then you will start on a higher level (2.3 or 2.4 at the very least)....more if you're working rural....

His TEFL cert and his documented teaching (only two years of which will be acknowledged) will put him at Level 1. Whether that's 2.3, 2.4, or 2.5 depends on where he's placed.

Korvia does GEPIK too, I believe. That might be a safer bet; you would be in a rural area, but you could be assured you wouldn't be too far from Seoul. Other than that, geez, I'd hope you wouldn't experience any racism... Also, I imagine having a family and supporting them on either a Japanese or Korean public school wage must be difficult; I'm sure you're looking into career advancement? Don't know where you're from originally, but you may want to look at ways you can do some online training for becoming a certified teacher. I've heard of programs in the states where you can do some parts of the program online, and then do the rest through a local international school. This may difficult if you live far from the international school, but who knows, there may be a couple in Gyeonggi-do. Then you could probably get on with an international school yourself after being fully certified, and get reduced tuition when your child comes of age. Or get some experience back in your home country. Food for thought...
