Would you provide information about pay, working hours, working conditions, vacation, housing, health insurance, and of course location please.

Appletree is a recruiting agency, not a school so there is no job information from them, but they will provide that information to you of the jobs they are presenting.
Like I said, I went through Appletree and the whole situation worked out perfectly. I am now in Korea teaching at a great hagwon so no complaints from me. |

| Appletree tried to get me to accept illegal contracts and ignored my reuquests for location, salary, age levels, etc. The woman who lives in Colorado, U.S.A. was absolutely two-faced with me. |

I'm sorry to hear that Dirving. Please keep in mind Korea is becoming much more competitive these days because teachers aren't returning to the US as often due to economic concerns, so it is best to keep your mind open about your ideal location since jobs in big cities like Seoul and Busan have become much more difficult to land without experience.
What was illegal about the contract? And why is that Appletree's fault and not the school's? Contracts are not nearly as strict as they are in the US so beware and make sure you voice your concern over any dodgy statements.
Cheers! |

I just wanted to say that Appletree is amazing! I got in touch with a lot of recruiters to get teacher jobs but appletree really stood out. They keep in close contact with you and bend over backwards to get you everything you want and take everything you say seriously. They DO keep in contact with you once you reach the school and even sent someone to the immigration office to help me out with my ARC card. I cant say enough good things about them, if you want to get an english teaching job in korea via a recruiting agency then use appletree |

Oh how I would love to be pressured or manipulated. I have contacted twelve different agencies in the past few weeks and I have barely heard a thing. Most say there is nothing available then post jobs on the board a few dyas later. Do these jobs exist? Maybe not. Or maybe I am unemployable...
So, any agencies to recommend that might actually have jobs? |
I'm the same. Contacted over 20 recruiters. Most of them didn't reply and some suddenly say there are few jobs and try to push me into hagwons (even though they continue posting new public school jobs...).
Does Appletree handle public school positions? |

I recently had a strange experience with Appletree.
First they sent me job details for a position, and asked if I was interested. I liked the look of the job so I said I was interested and an interview was arranged. Fast-forward to the interview, half way in they ask me why I am interested in teaching young children. From here the interview got really awkward. Appletree has sent me details saying a different age group. I was surprised and confused. And I am sure I didn't answer following quesion very well. I also asked about the location of the school, which was again completely different.
I don't know if they had already filled previous postion and just got another school to interview me without informing me. But that is my best guess as to what happened ... |

I think people should understand that they are going to sign a contract with a school, not a recruiter.
So technically, it really doesn't matter what recruiter you use! And thus, use them all.
What matters a great deal is the school you work for.
So check out the schools and worry less about the recruiter. This means talking to teachers at the school and getting all your questions answered.
The only benefit I can see from using a certain recruiter is if they have been around for a long time and have a lot of connections with schools. I know certain schools will only use certain recruiters that they have a long history work with. Usually, these recruiters deal with a specific city or area. So the school may receive applications from several recruiters but will only hire the teacher from a certain recruiter. So if it is a good school, you won't get the job unless you used that recruiter. Another reason to use many recruiters.
I remember this being the case at one of my previous schools. The teacher we ended up hiring was an average teacher compared to some of the other applicants. I was given like 15-20 resumes by my boss and told to pick 3 that I thought would be good to hire. I chose 3. The next day, I was given 5 resumes and told to pick one or two. I asked what's wrong the the 3 I had originally chose and he said he didn't want to use the other recruiters and was going to hire a teacher using the recruiter that he knew. |
