Would you retire?

Would you move to a tropical place? If so where?

Would you open a business?

Would keeping working your job?

Would you go back to school?

Is half a million even enough to retire on these days?

I'd probably get it invested as wisely as possible then continue on as normal.

Go home and buy a house, that would use it all. The median house price in my area of Canada is $532,000.

But I'd leave Korea, that's for sure.

Go buy some apartments / condos in a tourist hot spot in Latin America and do short term vacation rentals.

Easy 10k a month doing practically nothing.

Put it all on red. We can split the winnings. Confused

Honestly I would invest/put away a big chunk of it. Something safe and reliable. Then keep working and either spend way more cash each month or put it into riskier investment options with bigger payoffs. Like the casino. Or Facebook stock. Laughing

As someone who was lucky in the upbringing lottery, I would say that the biggest advantage of having money is that you can make your life choices without worrying about the economical consequences. I think my standard of living would be pretty much the same if I had 10 times more money or only a tenth of what I am used to. The main difference would be that I would have to actually consider the economical risks of my actions.

In other words, the more money I have, the more risky life choices I would take. Bear in mind that "risky" does not necessarily mean dangerous or economically irresponsible. As my username suggest, I'm currently studying in Korea, which is a choice which would have been a lot harder to make if I depended on a well paying job after graduation.

I think working hard and being good at something is important for everyone, and becoming lazy just because you have money is a pitfall some fall into. I don't think living a luxurious or overly relaxed lifestyle brings happiness. However, if it means you can cut down on the overtime work, get rid of stress or take care of your family, that's a good investment of your money.

Every time I hear this type of question, I immediately think of the movie Office Space.
Two chicks at the same time.

+1

I'd learn how to post things into proper forums, like Off-Topic.
