So I am on a E2 visa and have signed a contract with a new school but have NOT submitted the documents to do the transfer I have been offered a different job which I prefer.

Am I able to take the new job without any repercussions from the first school and the fact that I have signed the contract ?

Someone will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong, but as the new school hasn't yet sponsored your visa then you can do as you please. You are under a moral obligation to let them know as soon as you can; for face-saving you could say it's a problem at your end and you hope they find a suitable teacher blah blah blah, maybe even help them search.

You can quit a job any time, even before the start date.

Until the transfer had been completed and processed with Immigration it is not set.

For any action there will be consequences. Hopefully the school will get over it quickly. Do yourself and the school a favor and tell them NOW about your decision. The more you wait and hemm and haw, the more angry the jilted school will get. Be polite, be direct, and keep it simple. It you can give them some help in finding someone else, do it. Do be careful on why you have changed your mind. Just you changed it and that is it.

Ok thanks thats good to know. Yes I will tell them as soon as possible, the new job has better salary, location and vacation so its no contest really.

The changing mind will likely get them angry. The advice I gave in general is the school can not really do anything until it has been stamped and approved by immigration. I suspect if the school wanted to pursue a case against you it could be done. Not worth it, but they could raise a stink.

Careful of the school also raising a fuss other ways. Bad mouthing you to your chosen school. Arm twisting any recruiter you used who twists your arm. Careful of something my father calls bulls*t baffles brains. Basically school gets angry at your turn around. They start threatening to have you arrested, deported, fined. You as a foreigner do not know all the laws and reality. So you might change back believes their threats.

I don't usually recommend lying, but in this case it's the best thing to do. I'd just tell the first school that you're leaving Korea due to unforseen circumstances at home. You are leaving immediately. Thank them for the opportunity and say you're sorry for any inconvience you may have caused.

It will take an email or a 5 minute phone call to accomplish this. Don't listen to anything they say say to try to make you change your mind.

I would do as a previous poster recommended and not say you are cancelling because you have another job.

In most cases, it won't matter. However, there are things that could be done against you if you irritate a recruiter or school enough.

Just think if a school cancelled your job. And think how you would feel or react based on these 2 scenarios.

1. Your future school is very sorry but they have fewer student and can't afford to hire you anymore. They are very sorry!

2. Your future school found a teacher that they liked better so will not be hiring you anymore. You have a signed contract but they don't care.

Obviously, both puts you in a bad situation but #1 is understandable. #2 makes you want to get some revenge if possible.

I am suppose to leave soon for Korea and my plane ticket was issued to me by the school, what if I decide not to go... what will happen? should i just not get on the plane??
