@ Patrick: Not paying your teachers IS cheating crookery. The difference is intent, I think. Like 'wow, I sure wish I didn't feel like I have to do this or lose everything' vs. 'oh shit, I get to squeeze another young, foreign idiot YIPPEE.' The first example is a person who resorts to cheating crookery, the second is a cheat and a crook. If that makes any sense.
Not paying your employees is just obscene. Why ANYONE in Korea puts up with it is beyond me; it might force employers to make more responsible business decisions and/or get out while they still can. |

I've seen this more times than I care to recollect.
Managers who are just too lazy to do their homework, or worse
managers who have no clue what they are doing.
Whether or not this particular manager was willfully dishonest or not,
the results for the teachers are the same. |

Agreed, if you are not getting paid: leave the job.
Agreed: not paying an employee is wrong.
Disagree: reasons that push an employer not to pay his employees can be many and not all of them are cheating crookery, especially when the employer is also the owner of the business and depends on said business to pay his bills and so on....
For lots of people choosing between paying your bills and feeding your family will come before paying someone else in your employ. |

The result for the teacher was the same. The reasons that led to this may be varied and cannot be reduced to "he is a crook". That is all I am saying. |

Because you took this one episode and applied it to managers in general and because we have limited (as usual) facts and information about this particular employer.
Anyway, we can agree to disagree on this one. I am glad the OP left the job since he was not getting paid and was not going to get paid. |

The OP ain't even going to go to the labor ministry and file a complaint, tell me why there is 7 pages? I didn't even read your letter to your boss, what did it prove when you ain't even gonna file a complaint at the labor ministry? Actually, the letter was probably ill advised if you were to go to the labor ministry. All that time you spent writing it could have been used on finding out which labor ministry to go and heck, you might even give the labor ministry a call.  |
