I like JR's a lot. They have a good selection of beers and the food, like someone else mentioned, it pretty good.

my only complaints are the volume of the music, which can get absurdly loud, as well as the big fat idiot manager who is there sometimes screaming orders at the staff.

Hehehe, I bet Troy wouldn't agree with your description of him Wink

But seriously, like most Itaewon staff, JR staff needs some screaming at. At least occasionally, to wake them up from their walking slumber and take orders from the guests.

For the OP:

JR is good for many things, they have pool and dart, food specials and you can pick a time when it's empty or crowded. A lot more Koreans come there now than used to.

Hollywood Bar & Grill has pool & darts as well, never crowded and they do have the best pizza in Korea.

New Bar Americano (where The Loft) used to be is "nice" but has nothing (yet).

Dolce Vita has several pool tables and dart boards, a polite but small crowd of regulars, and terrible food (eat before or after yoy go there).

L'Ocean is definitely "nice", nudge nudge wink wink. Don't bring your own girls.

Prost is only "nice" as much as Disney Land is a realistic representation of life. They cheat on the beer. The food is bah. Good to impress a fresh Korean date but not much else.

Bulldog, if you like 80's/90's music (much of the other places mentioned unfortunately stick to the idea that gangsta rap is, or used to be, cool and worth of playing at high volumes).

Actually, since 2011 almost all of Itaewon has become "nice". It may be easier soon to compile a list of places to avoid. Smoothie Kings and more coffee shops than puke stains on a Friday night.

I tell you, the time is near where the last good (not necessarily nice) places will only be found between hooker hill, homo hill and fish alley!

+1. Though I got some pizza with a buddy at Hollywood a couple weeks ago, and when we agreed to get some food, we were both like "Yeah, I've had it before, best pizza in Korea", and it turned out to be terrible. Not sure what was up with that.

I am now currious to try the pizza, but skeptical...as Mr John Stamos Jr put it, everytime someone here says "best pizza in KR" or "best mexican in KR" it ends up being horrible. I had Mexi at that joint in Gangnam and it blew, bigtime.

Where is this "Bless You" joint of which you speak? I'm really bored with the places I know.

I thought Bulldog Pub had a dart board actually? My Korean friends think this is the most boring/lame place in the known universe. I think it's unremarkable but nothing particularly bad about it. Just really blah.

Really wish Itaewon would come up with something new...

Kimchi's favorite bars have all burned down in the past year.

Laughing

HA!

Maybe I need to start my own bar, it wouldn't be like any bar any normal human has ever seen, I've got all kinds of out there ideas.

the best anything in Korea or the world for that matter is what you personally think is the best..

I can certainly tell you, hollywood grill pizza is not the best in Korea!
IMO!
of course in your opinion it might be..

Well, that's the strange thing. I love pizza and will happily pay a lot for a good pie. The first time I had it there my friend and I thought it was incredible. Very underwhelmed the second time. The pepperonis were like those little, chewy dingers on a digiorno frozen pizza and the crust was cardboardishy.

Also, on the topic of food around Itaewon, there's a really nice fellow from Mexico city who used to be a chef at Spain Club in gangnam (I believe he said) that opened up a little Mexican food place in kyrunggidan on the main street right across the street from that other Mexican joint that isn't very good. The food is authentic and muy delicioso. Only ate there once when I happened upon it the other day but I feel like he deserves a plug since he seems like a really nice guy. It can only fit like six people though. I believe the name is Don Charly or Don Charley's... something like that. Check it out if you're in the area.
