The lady you spoke with should have told you where the school is.
If you didn't ask her, you should have.

Don't wait for them to tell you later, ask now.

I did, and she said due to GEPIK or whatever, she didn't know where I would be placed, and that I would be placed after the orientation.

Then you aren't talking to the school. Don't write off this as "whatever". Find a recruiter that will connect you with a school to speak with. I was able to talk and email with the head English teacher, as well as meet her and the principal before signing 3 copies of the contract for GEPIK.

The orientation was actually 3 weeks at least into the contract period. So, it seems strange that excuse was thrown out.

This process of assigning people schools after orientation needs to be replaced with a more sensible approach. If you go to any orientation before knowing where you will go, then you are supporting this.

It's not whatever, it's "whatever they can get away with". Don't let them. Talk with the school.

I understand that, but I was looking for public schools that need to be filled immediately, as I want to start as soon as possible. I saw a listing for this, and I went for it, though I don't have to accept it, and I may not. Although the vacation time is great, I've read too many people being placed in Gangmon and they felt like they were trapped in a prison because they were living in the sticks. I don't want to put up with that for a year, even if the vacation time is great.

That's even more reason to meet the school first. The process to hire teachers where they are assigned schools takes a lot longer. When you have 1 school that needs you immediately, then either you should be able to talk directly with the school within 1 hour of letting the recruiter know or they are hiding something.

In which case, keep contacting recruiters until there is a school that will discuss to you where they are located, what your schedule will be, and other important essentials.

Once again, ytmnd, you're harping on about a situation about which you know nothing. The OP is talking about Gangwon, not Gyeonggi. Your experience with gepik does not pertain.

A number of new recruits are being hired at the same time for a number of different schools. Even the head coordinator, with whom the OP spoke, would not at this time know where he would be placed. That would be determined during his orientation by a committee of supervisors, principals, & her.

Thats just how it works. The OP is free to take it or leave it.
