It is a bot.
It is not a registered user.
You cannot post PMs on this forum until you have 25 posts but the bot has no posts.
There is no effective block.
There is nothing the mods can do about it until the software is changed.

It's still an account. If it's blocked, it shouldn't be able to do anything, unless it's using some kind of security exploit. They claimed to block one of the other accounts a few months ago when this was brought up. |

It is not a registered user, it is not a valid account (therefore blocking, banning, or other security measures against it (like users can't PM until their post count hits 25) are effectively meaningless (it does exploit a flaw in the software).
It is NOT unique to this site alone has occurred on many boards that use the same software.
There is no prevention short of a software upgrade.
If you get one, just delete it. The bot doesn't know who or what you are.

If it wasn't an account we couldn't pull up it's account page.
It very clearly has an account
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=137349
Specifically you can see from the URL that the UID associated with the account is:
137349
If you open the database you'll find it's account information there.
If it has a UID it has an account.
This also isn't exclusive to phpbb forums, if you look at the link i provided earlier, the first result is a vbulletin forum. That would be an interesting exploit for a bot to be exploiting, it also shows up in places like Yahoo answers, blog posts, etc. It's fair beyond a simple forum exploit. |

Just today I received an abusive PM from biohazard5500
I rarely post on this board anymore. I only noticed because I have email notification on. |

The mods don't like to post in response to private PMs as it just gives attention to the wrong person.
I am pretty sure I know who this person is as I he once was a regular poster here until I got a PM from him that were full of insults. He went by the user name of Nolin Rae and before that Kim Jong-il. He was kicked off this board and has now probably come back for some revenge. I could be wrong. |

If it's the one about doing the world a favor and slitting your wrists or something just cut and paste it into google. It's all over the place. Forums all over the world. It's not a real user. Just a bot. |

Thanks for that.
My guess is that it is nothing personal. Some people just have nothing better to do. |

I've gotten these two in the past few weeks.

Die painfully okay? Prefearbly by getting crushed to death in a
garbage compactor, by getting your face cut to ribbons with a
pocketknife, your head cracked open with a baseball bat, your stomach
sliced open and your entrails spilled out, and your eyeballs ripped
out of their sockets.
I really hope that you get curb-stomped. It'd be hilarious to see you
begging for help, and then someone stomps on the back of your head,
leaving you to die in horrible, agonizing pain.
STFU, before you get your face bashed in and cut
to ribbons, and your throat slit. |

Can you please remove yourself from the gene pool? Preferably in the most painful and agonizing way possible? Retard
Die painfully okay? Prefearbly by getting crushed to death in a
garbage compactor, or by getting your cranium smashed in.
STFU s_ithead, before you get your head kicked in. |
Thought at first mumsy was stalking me again. Turns out it's just crap. |

Still it's pretty disturbing.
I mean who would take the time to (A) write a message like this and (B) spam it?
I think we're dealing with a disturbed individual here. And if he/she is not a registered user and a bot then that means they are quite skilled when it comes to the internet.
Does this troll also have the potential ability to access our e-mail addresses as well? |

Oh I'm quaking in my boots that they'd be able to find out my email address which I've used for 10 years and never once received an onslaught of male enhancement, Nigerian royal family, webcam, cheap viagra, 1000 mp3s for $1, dating web site, and Republican National Committee emails.
Dear goodness, why if they had my email they could send a bunch of Spam!!! Oh no! What will I ever do?
Disturbed individual? Look here, this is the internet, the place became totally disturbing back in the year 1998.
Relax. |

I don't think most here took offence to the messages as they soon came to know that they were not directed at any one individual. I had some bad PMs a few years ago from a member on this board, and these new PMs seemd like they came from the same person.
Let us not give it any further thought. |
