I leave Korea on November 1st out of Incheon. I have a short (3 hour) layover at Pudong before I make the final leg on LAX. I arrive at Pudong at 9:50am and depart to L.A. at 1:00pm

What's the process of transferring flights at this airport? I'd normally not worry about it, but considering the layover is so short, I want to make sure I know what's going on so I don't miss my flight.

From what I've read, I'll have to go through customs and immigration and pick up my luggage at the carrousel and basically turn around, head to check-in and do it all over again to get to my gate.

Thanks for any help.

3 hours only?? Erm,,,Pudong Airport area is quite expansive and surrounded by acres and acres of open industrial space.

Do yourself a favor and have a nice meal in the food court and sit down and read a book.

Once you land in China you'll be amazed by the expansiveness of the country compared to Korea.

My advice is to eat OUTSIDE of the security check. I didn't take a close look, but saw places that looked at least vaguely appetizing, then went through, figuring there would be equivalent choices. Everything inside security was horrible and expensive.

If you have to go through Immigration at Shanghai, don't you need a visa first?

I wondered about any Visa related issues also, but thankfully, from what I've gathered, if you have a US (amongst others) passport, you are good if your connecting flight is within 48 hours of arriving in to China.

I'm not planning on leaving the airport - not that I would have time to anyway.

As long as I can get through immigration and everything and sit my ass down at my gate, I'll be happy.

If you're going to want any food or drinks best to perhaps buy 100rmb or so at Incheon Airport before you hit Shanghai. The chain of bank that operates in Pudong absolutely gouges you on commission fees.

most people just eat at burger king in the pudong airport. there is a couple of rip off pizza places and such. Don't expect to sit down to a real chinese meal at the airport.

The Pudong food options do indeed suck.
