SEMA is the Seoul Museum of Art
Here's how you get to the Seoul Museum of Art
http://sema.seoul.go.kr/global/information/map.jsp
The easiest way, for me, is to walk out exit 1 of City Hall Station on line 1. Seoul City Hall should be on the other side of a big street. On your side there's a KFC and Dunkin' Donuts, and a street that runs along the side of Deoksugung Palace. Walk back along that street for a few blocks. You'll see some bizarre artworks on the other side of the street. Just a few more steps and the entrance to the Seoul Museum of Art will be on your left. BTW, if you continue to walk along that street, past the museum, you'll eventually come to Cheongdong theater, where you can see "Miso", and walk further you'll eventually pass a McDonald's that is across the street from Nanta theater.

Here's information about the exhibit

The Seoul Museum of Art has put together a series of work by international film director Tim Burton to celebrate the Christmas season. Movies such as Edward Scissorhands, Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Alice in Wonderland have made Burton a household name all around the world. He is well known for seamlessly combining fantasy with reality with a dash of dark humor. His movies have attracted a cult following and earned him a reputation as a true artist. This exhibition will feature 862 of his works including drawings, paintings, short films, sculptures, music and costumes that have been used in the making of his feature-length movies.

The exhibition is divided into three parts. The first part, titled Surviving Burbank covers his younger years from 1958 to 1976. He was born Timothy Walter Burton in Burbank, California, United States. He was an introvert with a wild imagination that often gave birth to unique creations. The second, Beautifying Burbank, covers the years 19777 to 1984 including his time with Cal Arts and Walt Disney. Most of his work in that period was based on his fascination with childhood fantasies, inspiring the wacky but humorous Tim Burton characters that many of us recognize today. The last segment of the exhibition, Beyond Burbank, covers his most productive years from 1985 to the present. This is the period in which he created the great movies that made him world famous.

Tim Burton exhibition traveling to South Korea
The popular Tim Burton exhibition that originated in 2009 at New York's Museum of Modern Art and has since toured internationally, including a stop last year at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is next heading to South Korea.

"Tim Burton" is scheduled to open at the Seoul Museum of Art on Dec. 12 and will run through April 14. It marks the first time the exhibition has traveled to Asia. Its previous stops were in Paris, Toronto and Melbourne, Australia.

MoMA had stated in the past that Paris would be the last city for the exhibition. Burton recently confirmed to a Times reporter that the show would indeed open in South Korea this month.

The exhibition features several hundred objects created by Burton and his collaborators. It includes drawings that the filmmaker made as a youngster growing up in Burbank and later as a student at the California Institute of the Arts. It also features sets, costumes and other material from his feature films.

The Seoul Museum of Art is a relatively young institution, having opened in 1988. When the Burton exhibition ran at LACMA, it included screenings of all the filmmaker's movies. It remains unclear if the version of the show running in Seoul will also offer screenings.

Burton released two movies this year, "Dark Shadows" and the animated "Frankenweenie." The latter earned the director his best reviews in years.

I saw this at MoMa, it's definitely worth checking out, even if you're not a fan of his movies. Lineups were huge in NYC. I wonder if it will be the same in Seoul.

Anyway here's some pics of Tim Burton in the shijang the other day when he was in Seoul for the opening:

My wife and I went on Saturday. The tickets were 12,000W each.

We should have probably waited to go to the exhibition later as there were huge lines. My wife and I didn't mind the lines until people just started skipping the wait and cutting the lines.

As for the exhibition itself, I wasn't expecting that much artwork. It was an impressive collection. There was everything from sketches on napkins to movie props from all of his movies. There was a screening room to watch his short films with Stain Boy and another that showed his feature films. The short films are probably not suitable for young children. There is blood and death. I enjoyed them though.

It took us about two hours to go through each room and come out completely satisfied. The art was intriguing, the movie props were nostalgic, and the amount of art was definitely worth the price of entrance.

We went with a group today and it is well worth the time. It was crowded but not too bad. This is something more than just the usual art exhibit. It's a peek inside the imagination of a creative genius. Tim Burton sure has an active imagination.

My only disappointment was that they didn't have any posters for sale, for his movies or for the exhibit. But they do have many postcards with pictures of some of the more interesting pics from the exhibit.

Awesome! I look forward to going to this in a few weeks.
Hopefully the lines won't be too long.

I remember going to see the Van Gogh exhibition at the same place at the end of 2007. Now that was well worth it!

Yeah, the lines were pretty bad and I went on a Wednesday or Thursday in the afternoon. There of course was a lot of line jumpers. I loudly congratulated (and applauded) a mom on her parenting since she was basically teaching her kids to cut in line.

Otherwise, it was awesome. His movies are hit or miss for me but I was pleasently surprised at the quality and volume of his work. Excellent dark/sad humor.

Oh...and thank you OP for posting this.
