I decided on Trend becuase Trend comes packaged with several boards/CPUs. If Intel and Asus trust Trend, so do I.
I wasn't certain if Trend looked for spyware but it sems they do but...
they don't seem to scan for adware-cookies.
I did run comparisons of shareware I got at download.com. There is plenty of marketing involved, ie you'll do a scan and then find out that you have spyware and the software will tell you you have to buy the software right now to get rid of parasites et al. I think they might have a liberal view of what spyware is to scare you into buying.
Tests... Trend runs in the background so it picks stuff up right away

I use Trend and like it alot. Runs pretty well with XP (it didn't run well on my old W98 machine) and doesn't hog too much in the way of resources. |

Just because the software come free bundled with your board doesn't mean the companies involved think it's the best, just that it makes the best business sense for them- this could be for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with whether or not they actually think that software is the most effective.
Regardless, Trend is consistently in the top 5 and you got it free- those sound like 2 very good reasons to use it.
This topic would make a good poll- why don't you add one?
Some examples of choices you could give:
Norton
McAfee
PC-cillan (Trend)
AVG
Panda
NOD32
Avast
Other (explain)
Nothing (explain why you're an idiot)
I use Norton. It's done me well but I can't say whether it's the best, just the one that has the largest market share.
When it comes time to get new A/V software I won't be stuck on Norton- I'll check out the reviews and get the best-rated one, whether it's free or not. Experience has taught me not to skimp on computer security. |

I'm a big Trend fan too.
I wonder how many copies they actually sell. Copies of it are with every mainboard bundle going... |

If you don't happen to have it on your mainboard installation disk - or a friend's - copies can be found on suprnova, kazaa and all the other usual places.
