|
|
Recently my om passed away and I was told by my uni that I was entitled to a 2.7m won condolence benefit through my private pension plan. They told me I need to provide the death certificate, which is no problem and proof of my relationship with my mom. I'm wondering if any other Canadians have gone through the process and what did they use to prove their relationship. My wife has already contacted the pension office and they have not been very helpful at all. Any info would be appreciated. |

Get a death certificate and a letter from your embassy verifying the authenticity of the death certificate and your family relationship. Bring all your Canadian ID to the embassy just in case they want to see it. Better to be over prepared when going there. Your school secretary can help you with the application form. That's what I did.
I'm sorry for your loss. |

For what it is worth, my wife checked with the homepage of the Private School Pension Fund and yes, you should be eligible for a benefit. Sorry, I didn't see anything about how long to get your payment.
She did say that the amount of payment is 65% of the average public officer, which currently they calculate at 4.15 million, which is I guess where they came up with the about 2.7 million number.
And, sorry for your loss. |
