I guess the real reason Gwangju has voted in favor of Moon Jae-in was due to the massacre that occured in Gwangju in 1980 during Park Geun-Hye's father reign of military.

Well, I have no doubt that people from Gwangju are not fans of Park Geun-Hye's father due to his dictatorial rule. However, the May 28, 1980 massacre in Gwangju would not be one of their grievances against him. After all, he was assassinated less than a year earlier in October 1979. In fact, the blame for the massacre falls squarely on Chun Doo-Hwan who was the new dictator of South Korea after Park Chung-Hee's assassination.

According to this news from a conservative Korean news source, Park Guen-hye will have more difficulties organizing the national budget next year.

I met my relatives from Chungchung-do province just a while ago. My aunt said "We're going to see the usual in-fighting between pro-LMB faction and the pro-Park faction. The next president totally reminds me of the Kim Yong-sam government around a decade ago."

Anyways, I found an interesting comment from a news article at Naver. The translation is

Quote:
Sure, sure. Even though I'm in my 30s and I voted for Moon, I'll admit that I'm glad to see Park's daughter in power. This election wasn't political in the beginning. It was a big war between young people and old people. The Republic of Korea will suddenly have more old people and it will be a bigger burden for Park Guen-hye and her administration to sort out the public services. Her supporters are mostly old men and women and they will get larger by the number.

She already adopted so many leftist campaign promises in the first place. The DPP (Korea's leftist party) would collapse if Moon becomes the president and this will be the end of the Korea's progressive leftist politics. We survived during the military dictatorship and we can survive well into the future.

Let me remind you that I, a leftist, actually congratulated Park's victory.

As of today, Park Geun-hye will increase the government debt to fund all the social programs (free daycare for kids between 0 and 5, 50% debt for university students).

I'm kinda conflicted right now. She is a right-wing conservative president who is now more leftist than me.

The good news is that China and Japan will influence more on the South Korean domestic politics starting from 2013. China and Japan will save South Korea and we, as expats in South Korea, should be happy about this.

The only thing I learned about Korean politics is this.

North Korea and South Korea will always fight only to benefit the military and politicians between the DMZ. This has nothing to do with human rights as South Korea also has a bad human rights record.

This is why it's pointless to talk about North Korea's crazy antics.

Please provide evidence that South Korea's current human rights record is as bad as the North's.
