|
|
I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of/worked at a public high school that specialises in golf and leisure food?
I'm applying for one in Anseong City, but would love to know a bit more. Is it a High School for future Tiger Woods and Delia Smiths? |

I didnt search for it, I was just speaking to my recruiter, they gave me a list of schools that would suit my requirements and I asked for a bit more information and this came up.
I am going to take it, as long as the details get ironed out, it could make for an interesting year.... or I will be disappointed by allowing my imagination to get away with me |

How about one that specializes in Basket Weaving?
Is that even going to be legal in South Korea with the 2nd best education system in the world? |

I'm sorry. What "requirements" did you have that brought up golf and leisure food? (and what is leisure food?) |

There are some "trade" high schools that specialize in things like tourism management that even teach bartending and the like. |

There are high schools that teach bartending here? Do they just whittle down the slope's response time after hearing the words "yogi yo" yelled at them? |

The HS I taught at, before my new job, was a technical HS that concentrated on computer science but then changed to golf, barista, and accounting. I was placed there by EPIK and worked there for 4 years. My school was in a very rural area and the girl's motivation was low and so where the expectations of the school. But the staff and kids were pleasent. |

I teach in a 4th or 5th-tier countryside girls highschool where the kids are basically just biding their time till they're old enough to work fulltime. At their school festival a couple weeks ago, they made over their classrooms into mini-businesses. There was a beauty shop with hair, makeup, & nail services, a "night club" with the windows blacked out, disco lights, thumping dance music, & tarted-up waitresses serving mocktails, & a restaurant serving some tasty home-cooking along with makgeolli (which the principal thought was a great idea). Thats pretty much a snapshot of their work prospects.
That considered, most of them are cheerful & nice young people. I enjoy teaching them.
"Leisure food" is a fairly broad category. Snacks, convenience foods, fast food, & I suppose restaurant work in general -- its a huge industry. A number of my girls aspire to be professional cooks.
An elementary school I also taught in last semester specializes in golf as its school sport. A rural school with 70 students total, it has its own driving range & a trained coach with an eye for raw talent. Its a feeder school for golf-dedicated middle & high schools. Its not a fluke that Korean golfers own the LPGA. |

Requirements were rural + high school + multi school bonus. Pretty straight forward, but obviously when the recruiter showed me what's available I asked for more information. |
