I received the "Stay Period Expiration Date" email today from immigration. It is the same date as my last day of work. As rules here seem to change as often as I change my socks, I have to ask the following question: If we are leaving and handing in our ARC card do we have to leave the next day? Or is there a grace period?

Thanks.

You have to be through passport control by 23:59 on the last date indicated on your ARC or you will be in an overstay position (subject to delays at the airport, possible fines (usually 100k) and a black-mark in your immigration file).

Failure to pay any fine given at the airport will result in your detention until it is paid (they don't care if you miss your flight).

There is no "grace period".

If you need longer than the date on your ARC then get a (free) 30-day tourist extension to your E2 or if you think you want to get another job then get a D10.

I'm curious about this too, so I'll jump in here with additional questions.

If you want a tourist extension on your E2 visa or a D10 visa, where do you go for this? How far in advance of your ARC expiring can you obtain these?

Furthermore, if you're fired or quit on an E2 visa, can you go to the same place to get tourist extension or D10 visa?

After you finish your contract, and you want to change your E2 visa to a D10 visa, then do you have to go to same immigration office that you got your E2 visa from, or can you go to any immigration office?

30-day tourist visa you can get from your local immigration office or on-line from the immigration website.
On-line you need to do it a minimum of 3 working days before your ARC expiry.
At your local immigration office at least a day before it expires.

You CAN do it any time in the last 30 days of your stay.

To change to a D10 you can do it anytime AFTER the completion of your contract and before your ARC expires. If you want to do it before your contract expires then you need a LOR.

Changing to a D10 you need to do it at the immigration office that has jurisdiction over your place of residence. If you are not changing areas then the same office that issued your original ARC. If you are changing districts then go to the appropriate new office (list on the immigration website).
