In a week and a half I'm flying in and will stay in Seoul. I will need a temporary accommodation, not a contractual lease.
A foreign friend I met in Korea last year stayed in 하숙집 as a student. It sounded like an okay experience. He warned that you may have a totally different experience at one from another. And my Korean friend told me some don't in practice admit foreigners, but others do.
Have you ever stayed at one yourself? If so, how was your experience, and where did you stay?
What about 고시원? How do they compare? I know meals are served at 하숙집, and maybe at 고시원 there is only rice available. Are the rooms quite a lot smaller? Are there usually separate showers, or shared?

And my Korean conversation skills are pretty limited, but I can get by. |
