If you had a monthly column to write in a school newspaper (for HS girls), what would you write about?

I'm looking for exciting new ideas that might actually prove helpful to them, and be interesting.

This time I think I'm going to write about Prom in the USA. I thought they might find that interesting.

Thanks.

Hi,

Just wondering what kind of angle are you looking for? A social one or historical or contemporary or...hmmm...I guess anything along those lines?

I think music is always interesting....it's kind of a univeral language in a way...maybe classical, jazz, pop, k-pop, musicals, folk music, or anything.

Just a suggestion....hope it's helpful Embarassed Laughing

You could look at a movie review. Poll the students and see what interests them and then use that info to structure your column. Smile

Prom is a good one.
After-school jobs is another.
Latchkey kids.
The college application process
Sweet sixteen parties

I guess that's all I can think of for now.

I think it depends on what your objective is-- would you rather entertain them, educated them, or both? Depending on the nature of your school (I will go out on a limb and assume it is conservative) you might want to discuss controversial issues of the day-- Iraq, US Army in Korea, plastic surgery, or anything else that might get their brains stimulated.

Ok... Derek.

First. Can you tell us:

How many students are there?
What level is this class?
Is this part of a regular class (or extra class)?
What kind of time frame do you have to accomplish this?
How long is this class?

Well, the school has about 1,000 hs girls (no boys), and it's for a school newspaper of sorts.

Time frame: monthly

The topics can be anything I choose to write on that would not be considered inappropriate in any way.

My goal is to entertain and educate in ways that they would find interesting.

I'm racking my brain for stories about stuff I did in high school, but the problem is, most of what I did would probably fall under the "inappropriate" category! Shocked

Examples:

1. Launching an Estes rocket from the bumper of my car on main street while "scooping the loop".
2. Burning down a corn field with a home-made bomb (actually my friends lit it -- I just helped build it -- luckily, I was in track practice when they did, because the Police became involved).
3. Skipping 6th period classes 140 consecutive times without getting caught.
4. Covering the basketball coach's car with immitation Oreo cookies (slide one side off and stick the rest).
5. Planting a radio transmitter bug from Radio Shack so my friends and I could "listen in" on our dates changing in the other room (learned a lot!).
