Go to the seon-in plaza.
Prices are all marked on the boards - prices are in man won so 55 means 550k won.
Specks are listed. Terms are the same in English and Korean.
RAM is RAM. HDD is HDD. Video is video card. I3 is I3. I5 is I5. etc.
You should be able to find something in an i3 with an OK video card for about 35 man won that will satisfy your needs.
If you "save" movies then you might want a bigger HDD (add 100k won).

Depends on what you are outputting your video to.
Just using a computer monitor then your average mainboard video output will probably suffice.
Sending it to a flat screen TV (HDMI or DVI) then you might want something with a little more horsepower. Any video card with 1gb of RAM and hdmi outputs should be enough for 1080p HD video.
An i5 will be a bit of overkill but if you want to spend the little bit extra on the cpu then who am I to say no. It won't hurt you.

Im going to be outputing the video to a projector, probably through vga. My main concern is continuity. On my old computer (i3 first gen) the video plackback would sometimes freeze for a few seconds and then rapidly speed up to catch up to the sound. Since im buying a new computer i would like for this to not happen. Are there any parts or brands of parts i should ignore? |

just buy an ivy bridge intel i5 processor with the built-in intel hd4000 gpu. it's a solid proc capable of handling anything an average person could throw at it, and is more than adequate for running tv shows to a projector and saves you the cost of buying a separate and expensive gpu.
spec you should look at:
core i5 intel proc
no gpu
cheap case
300w psu
cheap motherboard
4gb ram
around 350-400k won |

Along the same lines and similar price structure:
Asus p8z mainboard (doesn't matter which one) - can output to VGA and HDMI.
intel socket 1155 CPU (i3 or i5) depending on your budget.
RAM - 2gig ram if using 32bit windows (can't use more than 3.5).
........ -8 gigs if using 64 bit windows.
HDD of your choosing.
DVD.
case and power (generic case and 400watt PS is adequate). |

To give more details my budget is a maximum 500,000 but id like to do it for under 450,000. I want something fast, but i dont need much hdd space or cd dvd drive. I also will have to install windows. I have a copy of windows 7 upgrade but I dont think that will work because microsofts website says xp or vista must already be installed and all the computers I have seen online are sold without any os. I am using this compter to download and watch movies as well as to stream them. Do all i5 processors have a built in hd4000 gpu? |

no.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_microprocessors
and the current price for one that does is about 220k won (on danawa).
Either way, you can get a computer off the shelf for ~350k at seon-in plaza:
-built while you wait from their posted builds or
-a one-off from a parts list of your own - you can even watch them assemble it if you are so inclined.
Just take a walk around and you will be home in 3 hours with a new, custom built computer, just for you that will meet the requirements you have asked for. It ain't rocket science and everything is out in the open (parts list, specs, prices) so you don't have to worry about getting screwed on the price.

In all seriousness, an I-3 should be plenty of power. I would reinstall windows on your old computer, or let us know what problems you are experiencing. What model/make do you have?
I really don't think you need a whole new one!
I use a 4 year-old dual core Intel E5300 for a home theater computer, and it has more than enough oomph for video of all sorts. Pretty basic video card, too. Before that, I had a single core Pentium 4 that was able to handle most video playback tasks, except for blu-ray.
If you would like, run www.speccy.com (it's free) and copy/paste the results here so we know all of your specs. |

if you do get an i3 make sure you get an ivy bridge with the intel hd4000. the sandy bridges/ivy bridges with the hd2500 just don't cut the cake in my opinion. i still can't recommend the i5 enough though. for your intents and purposes it will serve you well for a long long time. |

He already has an I3.
Seriously, you should just fix what you've got and save your money! |

it's a first gen with no built-in graphics. the upgrade to sandy bridge or ivy bridge is substantial for his needs. |

At the moment my computer is a nec lavie with an i3, windows seven. Specs are 2.16 ghz and 4 gb of ram( still have over a full gig unused) . First my keyboard is unresponsive to most of the keys now. Secondly video playback is shoddy. It randomly will pause for a second( while the audio continues) and then unpause itself to speed up to catch up to where it left off. Third it freezes just by surfing the web sometimes, even if no other programs are running. Lastly the usb drives dont work anymore. Thats about it. As a side note nec no longer exists in korea so repairing it will be expensive. I was told 125k for just the keyboard. Im heading to yongsan tomorrow to see what deals i can find. |
