If you have done this, could you please tell me how you went about it and how you got service set up? I'm dying for this phone, but I don't want to support Korean companies charging extra money to prop up prices on their own, puffed up products.

This may or may not help, but I bought the N4 here in the states and plan to use it when I eventually make my move overseas. The phone is penta-band (think I'm using the right term) and unlocked, so you should be able to use it anywhere as long as you've got a local sim card.
