I'm learning Korean language and I plan to take the social integration course in the future.

If I become a permanent resident in Korea and get the permanent resident visa do I need to report it to the Canadian government/does it affect my Canadian citizenship in any way????

I do plan on leaving Korea for Canada eventually but I understand that having the permanent resident visa can offer some benefits.

Yes, stupid question.....but I am curious.

Thanks!!!!

They do not report it.
You are not required to report it.
You are not required to renounce your Canadian citizenship.
There is no change in your status in Canada.
DO NOTE that it can affect your grandchildren and their ability to claim Canadian citizenship if your children are born abroad (even though your children will be Canadians).

If I get permanent residency in Korea, then have children with my Korean wife, their children might not be able to claim Canadian citizenship because one of their grandfathers (me) has permanent residency in Korea? Do I have that right? If I do, that's seems very odd.

No, it has to do with the ability of Canadian citizens born abroad to pass that citizenship on to their children, especially if they're born abroad. It has nothing to do with where you do or don't have permanent residency.

I've heard that Canada is similar to Australia. My daughter was born here and is a dual Australian, Korean citizen. She can only pass Australian citizenship to her children if she has lived in Australia for 2 years.

My being a permanent resident has no effect on this in Korea.

Luckily this isn't Singapore, if you become a permanent resident, then your sons are obligated to perform military service.

After my child was born we recieved a letter from the Canadian government stating that due to the fact they were born outside of Canada, if they have a child who is also born outside of Canada they are not guranteed Canadian citizenship. Only if the other parent is Canadian and was born in Canada would the citizenship automatically be given to the child.
