| There is an obvious implication that when you use a negative term to describe people you are disapproving of their activities. 'Hater' is a negative term, so by using it you are showing your disapproval. If I went into an office and said 'there are lots of slackers in here', for example, can't you see that people would assume I was being critical of their working habits? |

Looks like you should take some of your own medicine. You are freaking out over me saying you are a hater.
And where did I say there was anything wrong with being gay? My problem was the implication that he was "secretly in hiding" and "waiting to come out" and how it was made to be something negative. |
I must have forgotten to freak out. Perhaps you could quote where you think I "freaked out".
On the gay front here is your quote:
| Quote: |
| I was merely giving my opinion that you all are haters. Who cares if you don't like someone? I don't. I was just making an observation that the comments such as Simon being secretly gay means you don't just dislike the videos...it's something deeper...all haters do it. |
You said that saying someone is gay doesn't just make me a hater, but "something deeper".
In your previous post you mentioned hater is
| Quote: |
| A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person |
Therefore you say I am a hater, or something deeper, and by pointing out Simon is gay I am exposing a "flaw".
Therefore you perceive being gay, or in the closet, as a flaw. Everyone can see it, and everyone can go back and confirm it themselves.
You really should be less homophobic. |

| OP, not sure if it's been mentioned, but if your coworkers are asking you to act like fools, perhaps you can ask them to dress and dance like Psy. |

How are they giving a positive image to foreigners in Korea? Please explain. |
I'd like to know as well. I don't think there's anything overly positive taken from two fairly feckless people posturing on a computer screen. I'd rather foreign people who do things like volunteer were seen to be representative of positive images of foreigners. At least volunteering and such like actually benefits the country.

No, we just hate Simon and Martina. Goodness gracious, I'm a Korea cheerleader but those two Koreaboos make a day of being stretched out on the rack sound like a pleasant excursion. |

A positive imagine, in my opinion, is one where they make other foreigners look like good people. They aren't going around and doing fake drive by shootings like the military personal. They show a love for Korea and Korean culture in their videos. That makes a positive imagine, since a lot of foreigners come here with either no knowledge or don't care at all about learning even the smallest amount of culture.
Therefore, I would say that if your coworkers are asking you to be like them, while it might be a little disrespectful in your eyes, it means they are embracing these foreigners on the internet who talk about Korea.
(Also, they don't only make videos about K-pop, even though that is their main focus.) |

Or they are embracing sycophantic halfwits with nothing of any value to say or contribute. |

I don't begrudge them their "success" if that's what they want to call it, good for them.
I would have a problem if students and or co-teachers asked me to "be like them" though.
Perhaps I'm just set in my ways, but I just can't become someone
else at every students' whim.
Ya cain't be sumpin' thacha haint!

They are mildly irriating and mostly produce fluff pieces.
Good for them that they can live off this and they do seem to enjoy doing what they do.
At the end of the day, no one forces you to watch their youtube videos or read their blog entries. |

I beg to differ;
If they (students and co-teachers) are expecting you to start acting like them, then you would be forced to find out more about them, watch their videos, read their comments, find out all their idiosyncracies and then do you best at a caricature of one of them.
A hell of an undertaking in my view.
To the OP, I'd say an appropriate response would be
"I'm not an actor".
If they persist then tell them you want them to be like "Banana Girl" or "kim Gon Mo".

I would throw battery acid in my face if I thought it would wipe the vision from my memory.

Exactly. What T-J said.
