Does anyone have any information about this academy? I did a google search and I found one horror story. Should I take this as a sign to steer clear or is there a possibility that he's just being over-dramatic? Any info or advice would be great. Thanks |

In my experience, for every ten people who get screwed over, less than one posts about it online. Most of the people I know working in SK don't even know about Dave's ESL cafe, and most don't know about blacklists.
I know many, many people who got screwed over here, and none of them said anything about posting online to warn others. |

My ex-gf used to work there and she mentioned how unfair the staff was treated at times. Apparently that branch of Avalon is divided into two parts. Not sure if it's by age, level or what. Anyway, on one side the supervisor was a tyrant. On the other side things were pretty good.
I had a friend sue Mapo Avalon because they fired him without reason and withheld earnings. He won! They still got him blacklisted though and he had a tough time getting another job. Ridiculous. |

As you know yourself, things can change over time. That's why you're asking if any newer opinions are around. I don't know because i never worked there.
But one thing hasn't changed about that place, it's still an excelent location being close to hongdae city. Oh yea! |

Yes. I hope the person who got the job enjoys it. |

Can anyone who has worked there recently please give me some feedback on the school? I am considering the branch with 4 NETs. Please PM me if you would rather talk privately about them. |

If you're talking about a place near Mapo station down by the river, I actually briefly talked to a guy who worked there, since I used to live around Mapo station a while back. He looked like a scrubby bum, he hated his job, and that's all I know. It's a good location though. |

Is the nearest subway stop Daeheung station (line 6)? I've heard it is a nice location but that can't make up for a nightmare job. |

I know people working there now. It is the branch next to Sogang University. It has a bad rep: look it up online. The location is good though. (But the job sucks.) People who worked there encouraged me to apply through them. Later one admitted she just told me it was good so she could get the 300,000 won referral bonus, but that really the job sucks. 헐. The owner is not nice is what I heard. |

Thanks for all the responses!
So World Traveler, if you were in my shoes (first time teaching in Korea) you would say to avoid the school?
That's pretty bad about the people working there trying to screw you over for a referral bonus. |

Avalon is (overall in general) going downhill (in terms of conditions) from what I heard...BUT...not every branch is the same. I met people who pulled midnight runs from the Ilsan and Gumi branches. Not sure about the other ones. |

Ok, thanks again. Hopefully this thread will help people avoid the school or make the school change its practices. The two mentions of it sucking are enough to make me avoid the school. I was really hoping it would be decent because of the location though. |
