I've tried looking for the answer online but I haven't had any luck.

I live in a small apartment that is a part of a 3 story house. There are no recycling bins like the ones you see in large buildings. I asked the landlord and he said to just throw it away. I don't feel right doing that.

If I separate the items myself and bag them (paper bag, plastic bag, glass bag, metal bag, etc.) will that be ok?

Sounds good. Separate it and just toss it on the roadside at the corner of the block. It'll be gone by morning. To where, only God knows, but no longer your problem.

Rinse the recyclable containers and separate them from the rest of the trash in a clear plastic container. http://www.russiankorea.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=18405

You're supposed to separate it. Plastics, cans, bottles, food waste and everyday trash.
