The North Korean military says it has "ratified" a merciless attack against the United States, potentially involving a "cutting-edge" nuclear strike.

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the army said in a statement on state news agency KCNA.

War could break out "today or tomorrow," the statement said, quoting a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army.

"The merciless operation of (our) revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified.

"The US had better ponder over the prevailing grave situation."

Pyongyang's latest pronouncement came as Washington scrambled to reinforce its Pacific defences, preparing to move an advanced missile defence system to the island of Guam.

The land-based weapon, which is primed to shoot down short and medium-range missiles, will be sent to the US territory to defend its bases there.

The Pentagon has already sent bombers, stealth aircraft and ships.

The barely managed to test up a couple of very crude nuclear devices and now they claim they have miniaturized devices capable of being launched on missiles? Don't believe the hype. Remember, Kim Jong Il supposedly shot 11 hole in ones the first time he played golf.

A real possibility in this mess is that the U.S. has had enough. The threats to nuke the U.s. and the dangers involved in the North continuing to sell dangerous technology. They may have awakened the beast.

It might not even matter if China does not like it. there is an element in the U.S. military who think that pinning China"s ears
back now is better than trying later.

I find the golf thing more believable Smile

It's one thing for SK to keep an eye, but the US has no worries whatsoever. Even if they had the capability, they are far enough for the US to have time to intercept them.

You can't intercept a dirty bomb.

Maybe you can intercept an ICBM but a cloudburst of radiation is hardly desirable.

And the Norks will continue to sell nuclear technology to Americas enemies.

They have stated their intention to attack the US, and they cannot be trusted to be a responsible member of the international community, ever.

To ignore them would be to allow a future where the US can be randomly held to ransom and threatened by a pack of irrational tiny-minded racists with a massive inferiority complex.

It would also be basically condemning the people of north korea to an eternity of oppression from which they could never escape.

Its a bit like Iran. At some point, they have to be stopped.

Kim has shown his inexperience this time.

All he had to do to safeguard the future of his regime was shut up.

But when you threaten another country with a nuclear strike, and then move missiles into place... you just blotted your copybook.
