They are also conducting naval live fire drills. Looks like it'll be US/SKorea vs. China/NKorea.
Nothing will probably happen but it's interesting that the Chinese are mobilizing. Maybe they are taking the NORKS threats more seriously than we are. Maybe they know something we don't know. All I know is if China starts in fighting against America it'll all hit the fan and escalate to high levels.

China is mobilizing tanks along the border. That sounds more like they are posturing themselves against North Korea. That's completely excluding the economic restrictions, especially in the form of oil (lifeblood of war), that China is placing on North Korea.

Basically China is sending mixed-messages. On the one hand its suggesting that it will still honor its defense treaty, on the other hand it is clearly sending a message to the Norks that if THEY are the ones to go crazy and start engaging in a war of aggression that China will not hesitate to execute regime change. The important thing to note is that there is little in the way of cooperation between China and NKorea militarily in these movements. You aren't seeing the same kind of dramatic shows of support for the Nork regime from China as you are from the US.

China's nuclear weapons are rapidly becoming as much about deterring Chinese action as they are UK-SK.

Remember when it comes to the artillery bombardment deterrence, time is not on North Korea's side. Given the explosion in trade between the South and China, and the increasing number of Chinese businesses and students in Seoul, the window is closing (or already closed) on North Korea being able to lob shells into Seoul and not angering China and damaging Chinese interests.

China's not doing anything to back a "boarder" (border!). What they're doing is flexing their muscles to give the current government (Americans would call it administration) in Japan a message and it's not mixed at all. The Chinese government isn't all that impressed by Japanese claims to some islands or the actions of some Japanese vessels.

The recent threats from North Korea were just bluster, designed to show their own populace that the big boys--the US and South Korea--that the North's leadership has clout. Of course it doesn't, but it's always good to whip up anger amongst a repressed population against an outside entity. Otherwise, the locals might get some untoward ideas into their heads like rebellion.

It's probably good - especially for people living in Korea - to express all their ideas and concerns about the complex, potentially dangerous situation, and reasoned discussion can help sort out what's what.

The beginning of the article cites some Chinese military experts who mostly blame North Korea for the crisis, while by the end of the article other Chinese military experts blame the U.S.
