| At my hagwon my employer has us as Business Income Earners and doesn't pay into the national pension. Is this correct? |

Never heard the term, but sounds like the ol Independent Contractor scam "move". Look at the some of the recent threads in which they discuss it. Since you are a I/C (i think) you are alone are responsible for pension and health insurance. Both which are mandatory. |

"Business Income Earner" is one translation for the Korean term for a category of workers who are not "employees," but are, as commonly referred to on Dave's, "Independent Contractors."
In your particular case, your actual status and what options you have depends on your contract. Does your contract state that you are an "employee" or a "teacher" or some other words?
Basically:
1) If your contract says that you are an "employee" then you should have National Pension and National Health Ins with you and your employer each paying half, and income tax withholding under 2%.
2) If your contract says that you are an "independent contractor" or "business income earner," or something similar in intended meaning, then your employer is responsible to withhold income taxes at 3.3% and you are legally responsible to enroll yourself for National Health Ins (even if you have a private plan) and the National Pension, and to make 100% of your payments yourself.
3) If your contract refers to you as the "teacher" or something else, then it's unclear without reading the whole contract. You could be in either category 1 or 2 above.
